A hat trick from Emily Jenkins powered Plymouth North to a 5-1 win over Whitman-Hanson in the Patriot League

GOLF

Will Gefteas and Owen Donovan shot a 38, while Conor Hunter and Nate MacDonald chipped in with a 39 as Canton (9-0) captured the Hockomock Davenport title for the fourth year in a row with a 154-157 win over Oliver Ames.

Aidan Emmerich fired a 2-under-par round for 40 points as St. Mary’s cruised to a 193-79 win over Matignon in the Catholic Central League.

Due to the weather forecast, Friday’s Catholic Central League golf championship has been postponed and will be played the following Tuesday, November 3 at Hillview Country Club in North Reading. All players are eligible for the individual tournament and the team score will be the top four out of five scores from the team.

BOYS SOCCER

Luke Saia sniped four goals, powering Pembroke (6-0-1) to a 9-1 drubbing of Patriot League foe Quincy. … John Fogarty erupted for a hat trick, as Scituate (6-0-1) remained unbeaten with a 4-0 blanking of Hanover.

Matthew Mela struck for the game’s lone goal as Natick edged Wellesley, 1-0, in Bay State Conference play.

Seven different Pioneers scored goals, including two from Jack Jalbert, as St. John’s (S) routed Catholic Memorial, 8-0, in the Catholic Conference.

GIRLS SOCCER

It was a dominant night for Arianna Bezanson and Danvers (4-0) as the junior figured in all six goals for the Tanners in a 6-1 win over Peabody, scoring four goals and setting up two others in a Northeastern Conference affair, giving her 11 tallies in her last three games.

In a Patriot League matchup, Olivia Borgen recorded a pair of goals to lead Whitman-Hanson (7-0-1) past Silver Lake, 3-0. … Plymouth North got three goals and an assist from Kylee Slavik in a 7-0 rout of Notre Dame (H).

Jane Maguire and Claire Nistl found the net and Elle Carter posted her seventh shutout in eight games as Hamilton-Wenham (6-0-2) blanked Georgetown, 2-0, in the Cape Ann League.

Sandwich (5-1-1) came away with a 3-0 Cape & Islands victory over Dennis-Yarmouth behind goals from Daria Horman, Riley Morrison and Victoria McGittigan and the fifth shutout of the year from Sarah Lutsic.

Alexis Vanderzeyde scored twice as Middleboro (8-0) held off Cohasset, 3-2, in the South Shore League.

Zarina Pinto’s two goals were just enough for Central Catholic (4-1-1) to earn a 2-1 Merrimack Valley Conference victory over Andover.

You can’t go wrong by being easy on everyone you encounter today, including and especially yourself. Mercury and Mars are in a favorable, though very passionate, arrangement recalling how, at any given moment, most people are responding to cues, triggers, obstacles and impulses that others can neither see nor begin to understand.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Observe until you have a gut feeling about what to do next. If no feeling comes, enjoy the silence and space. After all, silence and space is what gives life form.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). There’s a higher level of intellectual activity going on today, and you’ll get the chance to share ideas with people who think alike and differently. You’ll challenge and inspire one another.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). The best way to find out who can keep a secret and who can’t is to observe how people do with the information you give them — before you tell them anything you actually would want kept secret.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). The victory is yours, which is weird because you didn’t even know you were in a competition. Do not let that stop you from using what you’re given.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). It’s sometimes hard to tell whether you’re excited or anxious. Either way, there’s a job to be done. Breathe through the nerves and remind yourself what matters here.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Unreasonable purchases have their place and time. As fellow Virgo Dorothy Parker suggested, “Take care of the luxuries and the necessities will take care of themselves.”

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). The people around you with similar backgrounds and experiences will not be the most useful to you now. The objective and unbiased eye is invaluable, and it only comes from an outsider with a different experience.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Consider, just for one day, doing hardly a thing beyond showing up. It’s what most people are doing. Pull back and you’ll be suddenly aware of, for better or worse, what a whole lot of extra effort you normally put in.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You’re only interested in the people who are difficult to know and the prizes that are hard to win. Perhaps, it’s because you have a feeling you can succeed with this.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Resist persuasion. Those who attempt to sway you in any particular direction are more concerned about their own agenda than yours. Action would be premature.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). As a rule, people don’t completely know the landscape of their own psyche. Today, you’re as likely to be surprised by your own behavior as you are by the behavior of another.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). People who think they can’t do much about their situation will not pay nearly as close attention as those who are actively looking for all the opportunities they believe are around them.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 17). Your cosmic birthday includes lofty expectations met by new people. The plot takes unexpected turns in the thrill ride that is the end of the year. Highlights of 2021 include a legendary family event, a professional opportunity and a habit change or skill enhancement that brings your game to the next level. Cancer and Sagittarius adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 9, 20, 22, 1 and 17.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: Striving to be happy usually doesn’t work. Try these three methods under the new moon in Leo:

1. There is ample evidence to support the theory that people feel first and then come up with the reasons for the feeling after the fact. In light of this sequence, it is possible to feel good or bad for no reason at all. Try out the hypothesis. Decide to be happy for one minute. Just do that until it’s easy enough. Then, work up to two and three minutes, etc.

2. Happiness can be a most elusive goal. It is often true that people who set off on a path toward something that has little to do with their own happiness will notice a side effect of happiness along the way. Do what’s right. If you happen to get happy in the process, count it as a bonus.

3. There are three minds involved in setting up an experience. There is the mind that looks forward to it, the mind that is in the moment with it and the mind that reflects back on it. An experience itself doesn’t have to be all that comfortable or pleasurable to provide some joy in mind one or mind three. Set yourself up for success by giving yourself ample time for planning and good tools for reflecting. This takes the pressure off of the present moment. When it comes to happiness, two out of three smiling minds is all it takes!

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Sean Penn isn’t your typical movie star, as reflected by the close proximity of the maverick planet, Uranus, next to his Leo sun. Uranus is associated with the myth of Prometheus, a wily Titan who stole fire from the gods to liberate humanity from oppression. Politically outspoken Sean embodies this Promethean spirit. Penn will play Andrew Jackson in the upcoming miniseries “American Lion.”

Sun Transits to the Touchstone of Virgo by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/sun-transits-to-the-touchstone-of-virgo-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/sun-transits-to-the-touchstone-of-virgo-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:06:58 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/sun-transits-to-the-touchstone-of-virgo-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

This human existence is, to a great extent, a symbolic experience. As a society, we agree on what things mean to a large extent, though each individual also has their own symbolic language. This is worth touching in on today as the sun moves from theatrical Leo to the more personal and introverted realm of Virgo.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You already know what you like, so do something else. Better to find out that you have a great range of likes than to narrow your scope and be stuck trying to satisfy niche preferences.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). The spotlight is on someone near and this comes as a comfort because you shine when playing a supporting role. You’ll observe and note what to do and what not to do when it’s your turn.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). It’s mighty fine when the thing that feels good actually is good, though it won’t always be the case today. The thing that feels good is a cheap shortcut, and you’ll be much better off in the long run choosing the hard thing.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Human perception (and indeed, survival) depends on filtering out more than what we let into our awareness. You may be noticing a lot more than the others. Try not to hold it against them.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). It’s going well. It doesn’t mean that all the lights are green or that the journey is comfortable, cool and frustration-free. It just means that you are actually getting somewhere.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). When you know where you want to go but not how to get there, don’t worry. You’ll figure it out. If you don’t know where to go, then wait until you get an idea. Better to sit and conserve your energy than to aimlessly wander.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Most of the offers that come from the world of commerce aren’t even worth the time it takes to read the small print. Navigate via intuition and the advice of trusted friends.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). The remedy to get past fear and discomfort is to do the very thing you would most want to avoid. You don’t have to do it a lot though because once or twice will get you over things quite nicely today.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Parent/child relationships are often found between unrelated people. A degree of enlightenment will come with noticing how your relationship with a loved one reflects the bond you share with a parent.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Your heart is so lusciously light today, it will interfere with the laws of gravity. The people around you will be quick to laugh and buoyant as though walking on the moon.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You are a deft charmer when you want to be. Today, you’ll be drawn to cut your skills on a hard audience. If anyone can make these people smile, it’s you.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Like the water that is your sign’s element, you can be soft, soothing and seductive, or you can be as dangerous as the mighty crashing wave. Woe to the one who underestimates your power to change.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 22). Your projects do not have to be lucrative for you to consider them a success, and yet you’ll have the pleasure of many different beneficial outcomes flowing from your work, including financial gain. Young and inexperienced people will follow your lead and be better for it. New relationships start the year off with style. Gemini and Libra adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 9, 40, 7, 38 and 1.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTIONS: “I noticed sometimes you write in your column that one planet squares another planet. What exactly does this mean? Is it unlucky?”

Not necessarily, although it represents a more challenging path than some of the other notable aspects. Astrologers say two planets are “squaring one another” when they are at 90-degree angles in the zodiacal wheel. Squares are symbols of growth, initial strain followed by success, long-standing conflicts and ambition. Although “squares” create stress, they are the catalysts for change and produce action.

“I am an Aries and my mother is a Taurus. What are our official birthstones?”

The birthstone for Taurus is sapphire. This blue stone protects Taurus from treachery and deceit. It acts as a safeguard against lies, dirty deals and theft. It is usually worn as jewelry but can also be very effective when placed under Taurus’ sleeping pillow. The stone for Aries is a bloodstone. This stone is green, often covered with red specks. Bloodstone received its title because great Roman warriors wore it in battle. It’s offerings of courage, aggression and loyalty make it a suitable adornment for any person seeking a jolt of confidence, and Aries natives receive the most benefit.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Though some babies born today will be Leos and others will be Virgo, in the year Kristen Wiig was born, the sun was in Leo on Aug. 22, and Mercury (communication) was in this entertaining, playful sign as well. Look for Wiig as Cheetah in “Wonder Woman 1984” followed by the Christmas movie based on the popular Matt Haig novel “A Boy Called Christmas.”

Feeling Zone of the Full Moon Eve by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/feeling-zone-of-the-full-moon-eve-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/feeling-zone-of-the-full-moon-eve-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:06:54 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/feeling-zone-of-the-full-moon-eve-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

People have their favorite emotions, some of which may be feelings that, objectively, are uncomfortable or even terrible to experience. Why would anyone choose to feel bad? Familiarity is a reason. Unresolved karma is another. The eve of the full moon urges awareness of our feeling zones and compassion for our emotional habits.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Transitions are disruptive, but don’t let that stop you from making a change. You’ll be so glad you seized the opportunity, and then it won’t take you very long to settle into a new groove.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). When you slip into that certain mindset, it’s as though you can fix anything. From the smallest decision to the grandest long-term plan, there are no problems that resist clear thinking.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). When it’s not convenient, practical or safe to travel in the typical ways, micro travel may be just as fortifying. There is so much you haven’t seen in your own backyard.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). How productive you are today will have everything to do with the amount of interference you get from yourself. Why would you interfere with your own work? A wonderful question that only you know the answer to.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Emotions come and go. Moods settle in for a handful of minutes or hours or days. Today, you have a talent for shaking off certain feelings and turning them around before they settle into full-blown moods.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). It takes guts to be assertive, but the alternative is that you let your wishes, preferences and needs go unknown and run the risk of later becoming unsatisfied or disgruntled.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You know that the way you talk to yourself profoundly impacts your mood, and yet, often, you are not aware of the particulars. Today, there will be obvious benefits to listening in closely to that you-to-you dialogue.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Is it really possible to organize your thoughts, and if so, how so? Alphabetical? First come, first served? By numerical urgency level? You’ll intuitively stumble upon the best way and have astounding clarity for the effort.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You’ll find a simple path to feeling better. You’ll pause to reflect on what happened, what you felt about it and whether there might be another way to think about it than the reaction that caused you so much pain.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). To irrationally anticipate future threats or dangers is just an overactive version of the related rational skill. Consider your vigilance a talent, and then rely on outside opinions to keep yourself in check.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Words that follow lines of logic and heart connect you to humanity — illogical, heartfelt words perhaps even more so. Logic without heart is practically useless, if not dangerous today.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You are trying to have more discipline around something. The occasional lapses don’t mean too much. What makes a difference is what you do most often and persistently. Also that you don’t quit.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 31). There’s a difference between being spontaneous and reactive. You’ll have bright ideas and follow through without fear to create experiences that elevate you and delight your crew. Even so, this year sees you as less reactive in your decisions, pausing for as long as it takes for wisdom to set in. Sagittarius and Scorpio adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 40, 12, 22 and 18.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: “My husband and I speak two languages to one another, his native tongue and mine. We are pregnant. My mother thinks we should speak only my language at home, and his family thinks we should speak mostly theirs. What do you think? — Multilingual Sagittarius.”

Some believe that if everyone in the world were to speak the same language, people would be more connected, unified and galvanized. Worldly Sagittarius realizes intuitively that we would also be more rigid, homogenized and, ultimately, weaker.

Each language has its own beauty and strength. Each language has its own domain of power, and its own failings, too.

And so it is that even inside of ourselves, there are different languages and nary a comprehensive translation book or even a glossary of terms to reference. The heart has its communication style; the body has another; and even within the body, there are nuances of dialect. The stomach communicates differently than foot muscles or the pituitary gland.

Maybe we will never be able to fully understand the diversity of language in the world at large or our own inner world, but we may find that there is an even greater richness of experience available when we are present to our differences in the spirit of respect, tolerance, openness and wonder.

As for your household, you already know the answer. Speak all the languages you possibly can!

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Virgo violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman has made nearly 100 recordings in his career and is equally devoted to his role in the legacy of classical music. With Mercury, Venus and Pluto in Leo, the sign of children and creativity, Perlman embodies his stars. He’s a teacher, mentor and major contributor to music programs, including his own Perlman Music Program in New York.

Venus and Mars Argue by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/venus-and-mars-argue-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/venus-and-mars-argue-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:06:50 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/venus-and-mars-argue-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

We’ll need to bring great emotional intelligence to bear on this Venus and Mars argument. Even if you know what you want, don’t ask for it all at once. Relationships need a ramp-up time. Dependable bonds are created gradually, with one strand of trust at a time. Start with small asks. Test the waters. Work your way up to the big ideas.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Self-awareness is one of the more advanced and difficult of human feats. Since you are always inside yourself, trustworthy feedback from the outside world is necessary to your perspective. You’ll get it today.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Don’t worry about what’s going to happen if you choose what promises to be the harder route. The activities that will be difficult and stressful will also be exciting and exhilarating.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Challenge yourself physically. Not only are you up for it, but also you’ll grow quickly in all the ways that matter to you — speed, strength, grace and even cognitive function.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You’re afraid to commit, and that’s because you don’t know when the commitment is over. Put a button on it. When you give it a timeframe, especially a short one, fear is allayed and talent rises up.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). It won’t be that hard to do three times the work that the others around you are doing. This brings up the question: Are you in the right crowd for your skills?

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). People come to depend on you, not by accident, but because you’ve essentially trained them to. Every time you show up and solve the problem, the training is reinforced.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Remember when you fantasized and then it more or less came true? As you gain experience, your new fantasies are even closer to what is likely to unfold. Enjoy.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). People use problems as ways to connect with others. Even so, be mindful of what you want to get involved in, as things will not be as simple to solve as they first appear.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). There’s a ticker tape running through your head. Sometimes, you stop reading it. Possibly, thoughts get so repetitive you tune them out. More likely, they run too fast and better cognition requires slowing down.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). When you are sensitive to what drains you and what gives you energy, decisions become easy. You’ll do only what fills you up or what is so important that it’s worth being drained over.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You want the best for yourself and your loved ones. Bigger is not always better though. Today, it will be the smaller investments that have the best ratio of value to effort.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Suffering is usually linked to a distortion of thought. Eliminate the distortion and what’s left will be a manageable problem that is far less painful with which to cope.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 4). A lively new influence enters your world then it’s one lucky turn after another over the next ten weeks. An entirely new set of goals, interests and priorities becomes relevant in 2021. Remain open-minded because the unfolding is different from what you’d imagined and will make you happier beyond measure. Aquarius and Sagittarius adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 12, 4, 44, 38 and 10.

WEEKEND LOVE FORECAST: ARIES: Improving your relationship with yourself is a way to improve your relationship with just about anyone else. TAURUS: There is almost nothing you can do that will be more alluring than taking responsibility for the situation. GEMINI: Your time is too valuable not to take an efficient approach to dating. Learn the honest truth about people quickly. CANCER: You’ve impressive powers of focus. When you lavish them on someone you love, magic happens. LEO: Ever the entertainer, you never have to worry about coming across as boring; it’s simply not an option. VIRGO: You’re not the best judge of how you’re doing, so stop comparing yourself and enjoy yourself instead. LIBRA: A kiss can be an expression of affection, a promise, an agreement. And sometimes a kiss is just a kiss. SCORPIO: To a large degree, your motives are more transparent to someone else than they are to you. What do you think about this? SAGITTARIUS: Your independent spirit should not be a threat to that of another. If it is, go elsewhere. CAPRICORN: Emotions aren’t hard evidence of the truth; rather, they are suggestions. AQUARIUS: The best kind of fun will be the kind you make yourself. PISCES: In short: Goals achieved, accolades collected, fans amassed.

COUPLE OF THE WEEKEND: You can tell where Aries and Virgo have been together this weekend because of the scorched earth they leave behind. The couple’s incendiary potential will be released in the form of physical chemistry, verbal fireworks and lightning bolts of intellectual excitement. True, this intensity level can’t be sustained, which is all the more reason they should enjoy it while it’s happening.

Message from Mercury by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/message-from-mercury-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/message-from-mercury-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:06:46 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/message-from-mercury-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

Mercury’s angle to Saturn brings up the topic of preoccupation. Obsessions begin innocently enough, with a vague idea, plus an investment of feeling, ever-increasing until the thing is so laced in emotion it dominates all thought. Not everyone can obsess. It’s a talent really, if you focus on the right things — things that benefit more than just one.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Hands off! You’ve done all you can and brilliantly so. Everyone will take away something different from today’s scene, and there’s nothing you need to do to improve the experience.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). The stars indicate a weak force becoming powerful or a meek person coming into a position of authority. There will be a reckoning. Those who would take advantage of the small will now have something big to deal with.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Expressing emotions changes them. Many feelings cannot live the same way out in the open. They only had power when they were contained. Free reign dissipates them.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). To stick to what’s right while encountering difficulty takes a strong character. To stick to what’s right while tempted with ease takes an even mightier character.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Take an idea, mix in some emotion, and, suddenly, it all feels very alive, special and real. But that doesn’t make it so. Stay aware that sometimes our egos trick us into thinking things are more important than they really are.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Novelty and discovery are the orders of the day, especially in regard to people you’ve known a while now. You’ll be amazed at how new situations and relationships bring out different sides of people.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You may not realize it, but you’re starting to pay attention to different things than before. This is the beginning of a new interest, a fresh tangent, and one that will wind and curl around many opportunities.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You need a system for going back through your work. You’ve missed a few gems. Maybe the timing wasn’t right back then, but now you could mine these with great success.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). The idea that life should be, at least some of the time, amusing is a relatively modern one. With so much available to amuse you today, the best things around are still two eyeballs looking back into yours.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). This long wait will get tedious. When you’re not feeling patient, it’s hard to force yourself into the virtue. Perhaps, it will help you to reframe this period as one of “anticipation” instead. There really is something to savor here.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You have plenty of initiative, and yet it is still possible to become bored, especially when you’re a bit trapped. A secret part of you longs for escape — that’s the part that can block imagination.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Create your own reality. You don’t need any special license to do this, and yet you forget to exercise the right. Inspiring people in your environment will help you remember.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 23). First comes the overwhelming sense that you were meant for something, and then the discovery of just what. Your ancestors planted the tree. This solar journey, you sit beneath it having vivid dreams that weave their wishes and intentions into your own. You’ll shine in a way they couldn’t, fulfilling a destiny. Cancer and Aries adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 2, 9, 31, 5 and 16.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: (Part Three) A Virgo manager seeks to treat employees with equanimity. “Whenever the Sagittarius does something wrong, I correct and retrain. Whenever the Aquarius does something wrong, I’m frustrated and I blame…”

You could create rules to follow in order to make sure that everyone gets the same treatment. This is the way groups, organizations, indeed entire civilizations attempt to create change. This route is often effective, though one can liken it to treating the symptoms of an illness without irradicating the illness itself.

The root problem here is that you, on some basic level, do not like the Aquarius. So, the richest opportunity for self-growth is not the one in which you engage great wells of self-control to behave fairly with people you don’t like. Rather, the highest calling available to you now is the calling to love everyone.

Perhaps, it will be enough in this professional setting to begin by finding something to like about your frustrating Aquarius. Learning more about this person and the challenges at play in his life might be enough to ease the relationship, and yet there’s another key you can turn to unlock the deeper levels of the issue. More tomorrow.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Bruce Springsteen has stood for the rock and roll dreams of the working class who affectionately refer to him as “The Boss.” Even while the iconic Jersey rocker is raking in the lifetime achievement awards he continues to be about creating the future of his legacy. Springsteen was born when the sun, Moon, Mercury and Neptune were all in Libra, the sign of art, harmony and unity.

Goodwill Trine by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/goodwill-trine-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/goodwill-trine-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:05:49 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/goodwill-trine-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

The goodwill between Mercury and Jupiter gives a rosy filter to this moment in our story. Bonus: in the way of a snapshot that captures something in the scene that wasn’t experienced in the moment, our later recollections will reveal much. So jot down notes, file receipts, make a video, anything to help you remember what you’re doing right now.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). The general public may not be your best audience. Niche down. Once you aim your talent where people are likely to be responsive, you’ll find many to play along.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). It’s a fine day to, as Ralph Waldo Emerson suggested, “Chant the beauty of the good.” Other sorts of discourse, like complaint sessions and venting, have unusually high levels of toxic potential. Steer clear.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). The flower doesn’t worry about whether it is free to bloom. When the weather is right, it just does. If you’re worried about opening up, maybe it’s time to move to a different emotional climate.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Mistakes will be made. The way of progress is to admit to them, deal with the problem, learn from the sequence and either build on that or move along to the next thing.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). To keep from falling behind, look ahead. Figure out what you might need up there. Grab it and keep walking. Soon, you’ll be looking back and offering advice to the people who stand where you are now.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You don’t like to feel as though other people know the plan and you don’t. But you’ll either get comfortable with that, or you’ll ask for the schedule, the sequence, the inside scoop, the map, the numbers, the recipe.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Your guide will be a strong inner will that has always been there, though not always as assertive as it is today. If you’re not acting in your own best interest, it will pipe up with loud complaints.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Virtue is best delivered with humility, talent with vulnerability, might with mercy. The cosmic packaging doesn’t always team the right qualities together so you’ll do some intentional pairing.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Boats that beat against the current may expend great effort only to be borne back. Distance will only be achieved in accordance with the wind and tides.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You’re relentlessly positive. You don’t want anyone to feel bad because then you’ll feel bad. But not everything can be done in cheery tones. When serious, be brief.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Discretion is linked to honesty and acceptance. If it’s normal to you, then it will be normal to everyone. Trying to hide a thing often makes it more conspicuous. Plain sight can be invisible.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Worry helps no one, least of all you. Think about how you want things to go, and then prepare for that. Direct your positive thoughts and energy to the situation and all will be well.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 29). You’re free and bold. The fear that kept you from achieving in the past no longer applies. Next month shows you enjoying the push-pull dance of love. You discover and create new offerings and begin a lucrative fall season. Domestic reorganization leads to other personal developments and increased vitality. Aries and Libra adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 3, 28, 31, 24 and 16.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: “My Leo daughter is an only child, and she always wants me to play with her. My problem is that I’m a very practical Taurus, and I have no idea how to play the kinds of pretend games she wants to play. I get bored and don’t know what to do next. Do you have any suggestions about how I can connect with my daughter and be the ‘fun mom’ I always wanted to be?”

Leo children are often imaginative in the extreme. Pretend games are a lot like theatrical improvisation. It might help you to get a book on improvisation to learn the specific rules that help everyone move the story forward. For instance, the improvisation players learn to say “yes, and…” — meaning they don’t negate the reality of another, and they make an effort to add to it. If one player says, “Grandma, I brought you a basket of muffins,” the other player is not allowed to say, “I’m not your grandma, and those are hot dogs.” Instead, the other player accepts the reality and might declare, “What a thoughtful way to celebrate my birthday, Sonny boy.” Now the story has more elements to play from. You might study other improv rules and games for ideas about how to interact with your child in her imaginary world.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Singer Liam Payne admits to having a strange phobia of spoons. However, maybe it’s not so strange considering his natal moon in Aquarius. This moon is known to highlight zany eccentricities. It is also the moon of exceptional intelligence, creativity and kindness. Payne also has sun and Mercury in hardworking Virgo, and Venus in Leo, the sign of the entertainer.

Maze of the Corn Moon by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/maze-of-the-corn-moon-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/maze-of-the-corn-moon-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:05:44 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/maze-of-the-corn-moon-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

Those who’ve had the experience of getting lost in a corn maze know the particular kind of struggle that comes with choosing whether to stick to the rules and the path or to cheat by forging a new route through the stalks, in hopes of finding a clearing. Under the glow of this Pisces moon, games of all kinds come to a point of decision.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). There have been times when it was hard for you to imagine being free, self-reliant and in control of your own financial and emotional destiny. Today’s developments are a dream come true.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Not all feelings are messages from the depths. Some are just momentary choices based on comfort zones. A feeling can also be a distraction from another, less-appealing, more uncertain feeling.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You’re in the mood to take yourself less seriously and, as a result, your work improves. Perhaps, it’s because there’s more room to incorporate other opinions when you’re not so intent on proving yourself.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). “What is happiness? It’s a moment before you need more happiness,” quipped Don Draper, the central figure of the television drama “Mad Men.” To avoid the infinite loop here, strive instead to be of service.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). The presence of another will be keenly felt, and you will be made aware of the potential for trouble and delight ahead, as it is obvious that in some ways you mesh and in other ways you collide.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You’re likely to pour over every detail. The perfectionism that has you moving incredibly slowly now will also be the reason that you’re so excellent at the task.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You are very aware of what you don’t know and only get more aware of it as you go. This is proof that you are amassing a great body of learning indeed, as every new idea opens up 10 more questions.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Consider making a vision board. The surface verisimilitude of an image makes you feel as though you are within touching distance of your desire. Your brain gets used to this, bridges a gap, shortens the leap to reality.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). It seems counterintuitive that a lighter approach to a relationship would intensify the bond, and yet your jovial attitude will produce an impressive depth of connection.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). All of the little things matter. All of the little things don’t matter. Both statements will be equally true today, and the best results will come from alternating between the two extremes.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Today, there will be no good reason to impress or advise, entertain or manage. You only need to be present. Humility is the key that opens wisdom’s gate.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). When you find yourself making great efforts to project and protect a certain idea of who you are, then it’s time for a talk with yourself. Why does it matter so much? Losing sight of who you are might be just the remedy.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 3). Whatever uncertainty you feared, now you’ll embrace it — crave it even — because you recognize that the only way to grow is to enter the realm of unpredictable outcomes. The unknown factors include (but are not limited to) relationships with exciting people, esoteric knowledge and a novel investment. Gemini and Sagittarius adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 16, 13, 2, 28 and 5.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: “Holiday, this is a test. Are mermaids good or evil?”

Insomuch as they exist within a realm of free will, mermaids, mermen, merpeople, and all merkind are similar to humans in that they can do good or do evil and will, in any given moment, choose the route that is most familiar or beneficial to them.

Most of the early legends of human/fish-fusion types paint the sea creatures as murderous. They called sailors to their deaths, whipped up disastrous storms and generally wreaked havoc. The 19th-century “Little Mermaid” of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale was tasked with cutting out her prince’s heart with a dagger, a job she ultimately, selflessly, avoided by forfeiting her own sentient life to become sea foam. One vote for “good.”

But if merpeople, like human people, didn’t create themselves (or don’t remember doing so) then why should it matter how much good or evil they are born with?

In all of your encounters with merpeople, I advise learning as much as you can about their behavior and whatever particular strengths and stresses are at play so that you may better predict likely outcomes. I believe you will have much more fun with merpeople when you stop judging them and stay open to experiencing them.

Of course, I could be wrong. They might also eat you. That’s not very fun.

Did I pass?

CELEBRITY PROFILES: The rapper, singer, composer, DJ, dancer and record producer known as Redfoo wasn’t always the “Party Rock” king. Before the advent of LMFAO, Stefan Kendal Gordy was a day trader. The Virgo has applied his keen business acumen to multiple ventures related to his brand including a clothing line. Moon and Venus in Leo suggest that entertainment is part of Gordy’s cosmic destiny.

In a melodrama, the enemy is a villain who swoops in from the outside to ruin things for the good people. In real life, the enemies are already close — in your innermost circle, or inside you. There’s increasing intensity on perfectionistic and critical tendencies as the Virgo sun and moon head toward convergence. Go easy with that inside voice.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Today will test your endurance, and if you persist, you will pocket a prize, tiny in comparison with the other takeaway, which is the enormous satisfaction that comes from knowing you can count on yourself.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You’ll deal in a different culture, not having to do with regions but with a professional setting or a social group. It is possible to remain true to your core and still let some of the influence rub off on you.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). There are some things that cannot be accomplished with effort. In fact, the more effort you put into them, the worse they’ll turn out. To know if this is the case, pull away; do nothing; and watch for improvement.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Give a thought to the environment you’ll be operating within. The easier you make it for yourself, the better you can focus on the details that will make your work transcendent from the usual fare.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). The desire for freedom is a trap. Whatever you choose, it comes with responsibility. The real freedom is loving your choice so much you don’t mind being trapped by it.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Accept your feelings, one and all, especially ones that might make you weak, vulnerable or unattractive. Approve them, because it’s the only chance you have at steering those emotions.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). While it would be wrong to impose your care, you’ll be dealing with people who won’t easily accept what they need. Ask whether you can help. They’ll probably say no the first time. Wait a bit and ask again later.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Your appreciation of the beauty around you is a kind of meditation now, especially when you can take it privately, without having to express with language what it means to you.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). In matters of trust, someone has to lead, and it will probably be you. You’ll give your trust, and the other person will behave in a trustworthy way. When you withdraw your trust, the other person will do the same.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Others won’t see the truth of the situation until you point it out. Of course, what you’ll point out is actually your truth, not the truth, which is still mysterious. Your truth is a start.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Follow your natural instinct to assess who gets what and why. In the animal world, territorial knowledge is a matter of life and death. For you, it will be a smart and lucrative thing to figure out.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Jealous people have been known to do terrible things. Avoid attracting envy. Keep your cards close to the vest. Today, the only one who needs to know about your assets and accomplishments is you.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 16). Yours will be a year of sharing — your dreams, your struggles, the minutia of your life. The more you share, the better things get. A bountiful blessing comes at the end of October. There’s a lot you do for other people so be sure to reserve something for yourself every bit along the way. You’ll invest this savings in May. Sagittarius and Capricorn adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 7, 30, 33, 1 and 18.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: “I’m a Scorpio who is currently involved in a love triangle with a Capricorn and a Leo. Who is going to win the Leo?”

The one who best understands and abides by the principles of attention, as it is the language and commodity Leo most values. Here are 10.

1. Attention is power. Giving attention gives power. Taking attention takes power.

2. Attention has a signal strength and tone.

3. Matching attention tone and intensity to that of another creates connection.

4. People tend to respond to attention that is within a range they understand. To create an attention circuit, you must meet them inside of that range by a few degrees.

5. Avoid giving unwanted attention by being sensitive to and remaining matched with the intensity level of everyone’s signal.

6. Learn to control the volume knob of your attention by observing, and by making and correcting mistakes.

7. When at a loss, just listen.

8. Cellphones steal attractiveness by syphoning attention away from real interaction.

9. The most attractive, winning, exciting thing to do in any moment is to invest your attention in the action on the ground. Be where you are.

10. Love is a quality of attention. And if that is all love is, it would be enough to master in a lifetime.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Alexis Bledel, who played one half of the mother-daughter duo of the perennially popular television series “Gilmore Girls,” has much in common with the teenage character Rory, who kept a watchful eye on her single mom. With her sun in Virgo, Bledel has that rare quality of looking effortlessly at ease while taking on more responsibility than even she is sure she can handle.

There’s a particular kind of math that applies to relationships in which one and one almost never equals two. People together are always either exponentially more or less than their numbers, depending on the love or sickness present. The sun and Neptune will amplify and stretch those feelings flying between people today.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You may feel sympathetic to someone’s plight but try not to indulge the emotion of pity. When you see strength in people, you help them to see the strong parts of themselves.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). If you undervalue your contribution, then you could get into a situation in which you’re doing and giving more than is sustainable or healthy for you. That’s a recipe for resentment. Be generous but cautiously so.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Small gestures often mean more than anyone realizes at the time. There are exchanges that occurred over a decade ago that you still think about today. Your mind is a beautiful mystery.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You’ll build up the people around you. It’s different for everyone. You have to feel out each situation as a standalone, and this is why you’re excellent at relationships. You know how much work they really are.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You can afford to be honest and direct. Some cannot do this without the requisite amount of charm. Some have too much baggage to do it without causing harm with the impact. Not you. You’re light today. Just say what you mean.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Opportunities will come to you in the form of complaints. Wherever there is an unhappy person, there is a chance at providing something lucrative, useful or healing.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You take nothing and no one for granted. Unlike most people, you don’t have to lose something in order to recognize the value of it. You realize what you have, and you do what it takes to keep it perfectly intact.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). The thing about peace is that it can’t be peace all the time or it wouldn’t be peace. Peace, like all things, needs a contrast. Is this any comfort — knowing that times of disharmony help you spot peace when it comes?

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). People who are actively on their way to other places do not have the capacity to sit and enjoy one another, which is the glory of being a passenger and the magic of road trips and airplane rides. Someday.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). The Snow Patrol song asks, “What if this all the love you ever get?” and though you can be assured that it’s not, posing the question could make you dig in a little deeper.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Does it seem like an agreement you made is turning into a much larger responsibility than you bargained for? Stand up for yourself. Your actions need to show that you know your own value.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). There are helpers around and the job gets done. As long as there is good communication, all goes well. And if there’s not, then it still might go well, but who’s going to know?

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 11). You find the group in which your particular skill set is very valuable, and you make the most of that. This is the true gift of living — to contribute powerfully at what you do best. You will soar. Sweet music comes in many forms: relationships and finance particularly. It’s all about doubling down on what’s working. Scorpio and Capricorn adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 7, 20, 11, 4 and 17.

WEEKEND LOVE FORECAST: ARIES: Do what’s right for you, even if it means displeasing the other. TAURUS: If you can think your way out of love, you can think your way back into it, too. GEMINI: Sometimes it takes someone believing in you to foster belief in yourself. CANCER: You know who and what you want, but others want it, too. Charm and diplomacy finesses the competition. LEO: Don’t let your obsessing derail a good relationship. VIRGO: Just say it. Say what you want. That will be your best chance at getting it. LIBRA: Once you introduce the family, everything changes. SCORPIO: Sure, you’re a person, but you’re also a universe. How much of it can they understand? SAGITTARIUS: The superficial things may seem inconsequential, but they speak to your overall confidence, which is everything. CAPRICORN: You are always honing your skills. Relationships are a skill. AQUARIUS: You enjoy controlling your own environment and that is the main concern about letting another person in. It will totally be worth the inconvenience. PISCES: How hard can you privately, in your own head, love someone before they feel it?

COUPLE OF THE WEEKEND: Once upon a time, romance was a dangerous and exhilarating sport, and flirting, an art form of wit, intelligence and prowess. If romance were genotyped, the Aries and Libra partnership surely share the same DNA. Two strong-willed independent individuals teasing out the differences between man and woman, yin and yang. And with a shared spirit of mutual conquest, all’s fair in love.

Happiness isn’t pleasure, and pleasure isn’t happiness. You won’t find happiness seeking pleasure — or even seeking happiness. Happiness is a bonus product of certain pursuits or a state that you happen to find yourself in. Pleasure, as Mercury in Libra reminds, can be sought and landed, though its rule is always short-term.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Someone you enjoy being with is also the star of your tenser conflicts, which only serves as further proof of what is, in some way, a very intimate connection.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Today, you’ll learn how badly you want something. Either you won’t get it and you’ll use that loss as a gauge, or you will get it, and your subsequent satisfaction will teach all.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Your level of agency in a situation will have everything to do with your mood about it. Feeling somewhat in control of what happens produces a much better mood than a perception of powerlessness.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Bad moods are caused not by what happens, but by two culprits: negative thoughts and distorted thoughts. Everything that occurs is an opportunity to practice your interpretive skills.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Sometimes, it’s as though you can read minds and tell the future. But right now, it’s better just to ask people what they are thinking and to respect the future as a question mark.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). As you relate to family, help friends, get after work projects and do more, you’ll notice that everything you take on is a little easier than it was only a month ago. You’re just better.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Though you feel emotionally bound to the people and projects you care about, it will benefit you to ask this thought exercise: What if your only real duty is to your own sense of adventure?

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Your people are your people not because they are so much like you but because of what you’re willing to do for them — which is just about anything they might need.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). There’s a new goal to strive for, but you’ll accomplish it with the same approach that’s worked for you in the past. You’ll start with a sketch — an outline of a general vision — and then fill in the blanks.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). What’s on the outside can be arranged to make life easier, certainly. And yet, the circumstances cannot and will not ever be the source of joy, which is an inwardly generated force.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). There are many situations that are helped by black-or-white thinking, for instance, when you have to assess quickly, act decisively, commit deeply. But for most things, allow for as full a range of color as you can.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You might not like the information that comes your way initially, but it will be good to know, as it will deepen your understanding of the scene you’re in, thus giving you more power in it.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept.5). You know what you’re good at, but it’s mighty fine to be told about it, as you will be in so many ways. You’ll be handed praise and new responsibilities, entrusted with the potential glory of the team. Financial luck increases mid-2021. Seek higher education and specialty knowledge. Love and travel go together. Gemini and Leo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 40, 14, 20 and 35.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTIONS: “My birthday is Dec. 8, 1964. I was with someone who I thought was my soul mate, a Libra, but he went back with an old girlfriend. We are still in contact almost daily, although he is passive-aggressive — contacting me and then waiting for me to contact him. I am having trouble moving on because I can’t believe we are done. Any chance of reconciliation? If not, what’s the likelihood of me meeting someone new?”

Unless you’re comfortable being the other woman, I think this relationship is showing very poor boundaries. That said, you may find forbidden relationships carry an emotionally compelling, fascinating charge, and that is what forms the primary attraction for you. With Venus in Scorpio joined with Neptune, you are vulnerable to taboo relationships or charismatic partners who are also unavailable in some fashion. Like eating addictive food, you know when a person is bad for you, yet you keep reaching. If you want to change a pattern, sometimes you just have to say no. This fall, you get that chance. Your eyes are opened to that mechanism that makes you spring for unreliable partners. Understand this behavior, and your love life will be liberated.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Raquel Welch has said, “Privately, I am understated and dislike hoopla.” Truer words to the Virgo nature were never spoken. Also in keeping with her sign is Welch’s enduring allure and all the vitality for which earth signs are known. An evergreen figure in Hollywood and in the world of beauty, too, Welch carved out her own niche, and it’s one that only she can fill.

Venus Gets Catty by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/venus-gets-catty-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/venus-gets-catty-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:51 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/venus-gets-catty-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

Escapist fantasies abound today. They are not in and of themselves harmful. Being able to go to a beautiful place in your mind can be a release from the demands of reality, an exercise in creativity and a celebration of possibility. The best is when it inspires you to move your reality along, too, as it will with the transit of Venus into Leo.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Move from where you are, as this is no longer a good place to be. You don’t have to go far, and it doesn’t matter in which direction, only that you demonstrate movement.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Here you are, unready and in a position to choose. You don’t even have enough data to make an educated guess, although, in a strange way, you’re at an advantage with this, forced to rely only on your gut.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). The early days of every relationship and endeavor lay the groundwork for what happens later, which is why it’s so important to reveal some basic truths and establish key expectations on day one.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). The best opportunities will come by way of relationships. You’ll have two more opportunities today than you’ve been afforded so far any day this month. Stay on high alert for them or they’ll pass by unnoticed.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). All it takes is a few inquiries, and suddenly, you’re off in a fascinating direction. Go on and get involved, as new influences will spark favorable changes in your day to day.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). When you give attention, you are giving your life force, which will be spent no matter what, though some ways are more of an investment, and others are just waste.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). In the beginning of a relationship, you’re mainly trying things. You might not see it that way, because the process of getting to know someone is so intuitive. Just know that if it’s not working, you can pivot and try something else.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Sometimes you treat everyone the same, and other times it feels right to be more flexible, taking your lead from the needs of those around you. You’ll be somewhere in the middle today, consistent but ready to adjust.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). There’s an art to self-discipline. Knowing how far to push yourself is key. If you drive yourself too hard or place too many restrictions on yourself, you’ll rebel. To rebel against yourself is far worse than rebelling against others.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Just as a story without conflict is barely a story, a day without an obstacle would hardly be worth remembering. At least today’s problem will have you laughing a little.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Your mighty purpose today is to make people smile. Indeed, there may be none mightier, or more challenging, considering the moods of some of the people you’ll come across.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). A relationship is like a long car ride: Sometimes you’re the one driving, but it’s not good to have one person at the wheel for too long. Take turns. Slide over to the passenger seat.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 6). You’ll enjoy the community of like minds and be challenged by those with differing opinions. Diverse influences fortify your worldview and strengthen your understanding of your role. You’ll make big plans that also happen to be the right thing for all. Doing what the world needs brings quick success. Pisces and Gemini adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 45, 2, 33, 10 and 8.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: Venus crosses into Leo with a boost in charisma, ego and confidence. Confidence is sometimes described as a state of trust, especially being sure of one’s own thoughts and actions. Plenty of harm in the world has been done by people so sure of their own minds that they didn’t check around, consider the greater good or factor in other possible courses of action beyond their own thinking. Ideas, no matter where they come from, aren’t fact. Conceptions, even those generated from a seemingly pure place inside, are just information with a varying degree of reliability.

There is a time to act in confidence, to take all you know and commit ever deeper to the world of it as though it were the only possibility. Picture, if you will, a ballet dancer executing the dance: Leaps and stretches, even stillness, could be ruined with hesitation. Tentativeness could cause injury, not to mention a weak effect on the audience. Arguably, it is the ballet dancer’s utter assurance that creates the dance and makes it so compelling.

But before the performance, when the choreography is still being decided, when the potential for art is still an array of choice — that is when overconfidence could cause limitations and mistakes.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Jeff Foxworthy has sold the most comedy albums of any comedian in history and is the bestselling author of more than 26 books. His children’s book “Dirt on My Shirt” is fitting for Earth sign Virgo, as is his passion for the outdoors and spending time on his Georgian farm. He is co-host of the “Jeff & Larry’s Comedy Roundup” station on Sirius XM.

The Message of Saturn’s Directional Change by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/the-message-of-saturns-directional-change-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/the-message-of-saturns-directional-change-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:50 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/the-message-of-saturns-directional-change-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

In theory, abstaining from bad habits is simple: you just don’t do the bad habit. In reality, the complexity of the human mind can turn even the simplest directive into a mission impossible. Therefore, some desirable behaviors are hard to own. The direction change of Saturn suggests we strive for clear thinking. All progress springs from this.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You feel like a soldier for a cause, though to others who know less about it, you are very much a commander. Either way, your position comes with great responsibility.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Your sophistication makes it easier for you to avoid extremes of thought. Just because things aren’t the best doesn’t make them the worst. You could sort through feelings, but choosing not to judge is quicker and cleaner.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Sometimes, liking a thing or not liking it is very much beside the point. What unfolds can be very good for you even when you don’t like it. Your deepest desire is to evolve and because of this, you will.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Your willpower reserves are low, so try not to force yourself into anything. Entice yourself with rewards. Seduce yourself with visions of who’ll you’ll be when you stick to the plan.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You know that communication is usually more about listening than it is about talking. Not everyone got that memo. Don’t let anyone take advantage of your patient attention. Assert yourself when it’s your turn.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). If you think of a thing as a problem, then it will be. Or you could see it as a maze, a puzzle, a game, a test, an opportunity, a ticket, a target, a nonissue, a practice run… the list is endless. Just pick one.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). What the one-uppers don’t get is that higher up isn’t always a better position. In fact, it’s so conspicuous that some people will enjoy taking shots to bring down the mighty. You’ll position yourself strategically.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Retain your autonomy. Participate only how you wish to. Answer only the questions you want to answer. A vague response can get you out of a potentially uncomfortable situation.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). A friend can make the time go by differently. Connections have a way of making moments elastic, stretching or snapping the minutes according to rhythms of the heart.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You’ll become aware of how an undesirable habit is a symptom of something deeper that’s been bothering you. This is an excellent day to ask yourself, “What is this behavior really about?”

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Personal failings or victories are not moral failings or victories. Wins and losses are strategies that worked or didn’t. Take judgment out of the equation and success becomes easier to configure.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Everything you obtain, you have to find a place for, maintain, keep an eye on and more. Right now, you’re working toward something you want, but the universe just might show you something even better.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 29). You build a few new practices this year, one at a time, step by step, habit by habit. You focus on getting incrementally better at something and by next season you can already start to see results. January beings an exciting bonus and March hands you the opportunity to turn over an investment for profit. Gemini and Cancer adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 9, 4, 44, 48 and 11.

COSMIC QUESTION: “I’m a 32-year-old Cancer. My friends think I have a glamorous life and they give me a ‘pass’ for not being a very good friend. I’m way too busy to meet up for lunch or a workout or chat on the phone like a lot of people do. My legal job affords me a nice lifestyle, but I work so many hours I can’t enjoy it. When I’m not working, I’m taking classes to get more specialized training. They think I have it all, so why do I feel like I have nothing?”

People only ever have time for the things they want to make time for. It sounds like you prize professional accomplishment but the sacrifice has been so great that you are now doubting whether it was all worth it. Your Cancer sun sign suggests a great need to nurture others and be nurtured. With relationships hanging by a thread, this level of neglect has you ignoring the basic needs of your heart and soul. The good news is that once you make your mind up to advocate for yourself, you’ll have no problem rebalancing your life by changing your workload and connecting with people you enjoy.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Platinum-selling artist Halsey is lauded for sharing her complicated mind and wide emotional range through music, as well as for her social activism. Libra is known as the peacekeeper of the zodiac, but sometimes peace is more a matter of singing out the hard truth instead of ignoring problems. With Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Pluto in Scorpio, Halsey is natural-born truth-teller.

If only it were easier to make yourself do the things you say you want to do. It’s as though you’re two different people: the one who wants next-version you and the one who wants comfortable ole you. The bad news is you can only choose one. The good news is Mercury enters ever-improving Virgo today — one vote for leveling up.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). An industrious mood takes hold. Avoid applying it to long-term commitments. You’ll have the sort of flair that is best put to use on a task you’re likely to finish in a day.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). To love a person wholly is to love many versions of that person, past, present and future. Those versions are always alive somewhere in the totality of a person. Loving a person means loving change.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). If you can detect the difference between what you know and what you merely feel like you know, then you are quite a rare human indeed. To be safe, check your facts.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You won’t have to say what you want in order to get what you want. Your subconscious messaging system is going strong, and you will telegraph your needs, even when you’re not aware of it.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Intellect and intelligence are two different things. You’ll gravitate to the latter, doing what’s smart, graceful, logical and practical without bothering with the facts, history or mechanics of a thing.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). With your focused mindset, you can accomplish exactly what you need to without getting wrapped up in the side effects, pitfalls and traps that typically come with the endeavor.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). What’s now appropriate was, once upon a time, not at all. Your ability to read the room and adjust to suit your audience will put you ahead of the competition.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Life is usually a trade-off, but sometimes you hit those lucky times when you can have your cake and eat it, too. Today brings such good fortune. You won’t have to let go of what you have to add something new.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). There’s security in blending in, but that’s the only upside. The prize will go to the standout. To beat the competition, do more. To make a memory, do it differently.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). It’s harmful to the car’s transmission to stay in the same gear for too long. The same goes for relationships. Stay in the same mode too long and things wear badly. Change gears.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). The vision could become an invention or a reality if you’re willing and able to put the work in. But a lot of visions have this potential. It’s a matter of deciding on the one you’ll love to spend hundreds of hours on.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Compassion is the best growth agent around. Apply it and watch people heal, sprout, improve, create and more. The power of compassion is almost limitless.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 19). Focus is might. You’re on to bigger things this year, and you’ll notice that what used to distract you now seems like a quaint decoration with no power over your attention. Family learns from you. The new year shows a shift in your presentation style. You’ll attract different professional and personal situations. Cancer and Scorpio adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 3, 30, 31, 2 and 15.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTIONS: “Hi! You mentioned once that as a Capricorn, I have built a barrier around myself for love, and I agree that I have, but I don’t know how to break through. I was wondering if you had any advice for me.”

Think in terms of a financial investment. One cannot put money into, say, the stock market without the possibility of losing the entire investment. It is not possible to only put money into stocks that go up, because there are no guarantees. Capricorn is a tough cookie who can turn on the charm, or shut people out. Capricorn is excellent at determining quickly who can help with a goal and who is standing in the way of it. This skill is both a success key and a survival instinct. But when it comes to love, all bets are off. Love requires vulnerability over strength, heart over head, instinct over reason. Being open to love for you includes a willingness to be hurt, to be wrong and to be made a fool. Unless you are open to the possible negative side of love, you are not really open to the positive side of it.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: At the turn of the 20th century, the race for human flight was run by serious scientists across the globe, including some highly educated and funded individuals. But it was the indomitable will and tenacity of the Wright brothers that cracked the code, and without funding or education. The Leo inventor Orville Wright changed the world forever by flying toward his guiding planet, the sun.

Mercury Change Imminent — Talk Now! by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mercury-change-imminent-talk-now-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mercury-change-imminent-talk-now-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:46 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mercury-change-imminent-talk-now-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

Take advantage of the chance to strengthen relationships through communication these last days of Mercury in Libra. Tell someone how you feel. It’s not about striking the perfect deal, having an amazing conversation or delivering just the right sentiment. What matters most is the intension to connect in a particular way. That may be all you need.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). There will be no shortage of ideas; some you generate, some drop in from the ether, some are presented to you on shiny platters, bite-sized and delicious. Those are the ones to start with.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). As nice as you are, it actually isn’t so easy to give a good compliment. One will be required of you though, so start thinking about things to like. Best case scenario, you’re genuinely moved, and then it’s easy.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). The breezy way is not to dwell on exchanges that already happened or get too heavy into plans for the future. You’ll love what unfolds from a playful, lighthearted moment.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). If you feel things are going nowhere, then you’ll make a move in any direction because you can’t stand the feeling of being trapped, stuck or frozen. Any which way you go will free up the flow.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You don’t mind the feeling of want; in fact, it’s a comfort when compared with related feelings, for instance the feeling of not knowing what to want or feeling that you should want what you don’t.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Your cycle of responsiveness will make a difference in how people treat you. If you’re always there delivering on needs, you will certainly be taken for granted. Change it up. It’s a good day to say “no.”

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). It’s not the first time you’ve said what the others are thinking, but you’re a little bolder about it today. They’ll either laugh — because the truth is hilarious — or they’ll silently shuffle you right to their heart.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). When it’s your turn to step out in front, just take it and get it over with. You’ll feel you have nothing to contribute, but your presence and spirit of willingness are all that’s required.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You’d rather be a follower than a leader who doesn’t know the way. This is why you’ll get the map, read the book, talk to the locals and learn all you can about what’s ahead.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Everything you’re born with is a neutral phenomenon. There’s nothing right or wrong about anything that came with the package. Winning belief of the day: All is ripe and ready to be what you make of it.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Fear is a lot more useful than most of the other emotions, and yet it goes unappreciated. Fear keeps people safe. Sure, it often works harder than it needs to. It will be lucky to thank it anyway.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Unless you are in the medical field, there will be no need to fix anyone today, including yourself. A “let it be” attitude will carry you gently to the harbor.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 25). Even though your dignified approach to most everything will be celebrated and imitated, your glory days are ahead. Your inner circle is tight but someone new will warm their way right into it by melting your heart. The finances get more organized, and you’ll have more to put toward the things that matter. Sagittarius and Capricorn adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 7, 12, 28, 40 and 9.

WEEKEND LOVE FORECAST: ARIES: You’re both wondering how deep the other person’s feelings go. Just ask. TAURUS: You’re more likely to want someone who is just out of reach, either because it’s a challenge or because it feels emotionally safer right now. GEMINI: Who pays? That’s the question that is significant in a hundred different ways and in fact could be the start, or the end, of a relationship. CANCER: You learn so much from a phone conversation. It’s intimate and without a contradiction in cues. LEO: Strange but true: Some people actually like to be jealous and will recreate the circumstance just for the charge of it. VIRGO: The future, being unknown, is scary for everyone. Talk about now. Play it moment by moment. LIBRA: Right now, feelings are as likely to guide you as they are to mislead you, so drop as much reason into the equation as possible. SCORPIO: What’s the thought that keeps you connected to someone? SAGITTARIUS: Your material possessions will be judged — not what they are but how you keep them. CAPRICORN: The people close to you will give you their honest opinion about your love life whether you want it or not. AQUARIUS: Someone is very excited to spend time with you and this counts more than a million other things. PISCES: It is only in sharing yourself that you discover how similar you are to others.

COUPLE OF THE WEEKEND: The air sign match of Aquarius and Libra is like a light breeze that turns into a gusty wind. There’s excitement here. When is the storm going to hit? Probably as soon as one person goes hot and the other goes cold. Beautiful skies depend on this kind of conflict, which will be quickly resolved, though memorialized in stories for years to come.

The true dignity of a thing is found in its natural state, a state that can be hard to recall after life and evolution have their way — modifications here, manipulations there, adaptations and dressings. Its essence is often lost to survival’s long list of compromises. Venus and Neptune offer a vision outside bounds of time and circumstance, back to quiddity.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Nice isn’t always good, and not nice isn’t always bad. There are many reasons people have for doing what they do and for being in the mood they are in. Stay aware of the bigger picture.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Doing only what you like provides you with but a bland palate of satisfactions. Incorporate what you dislike, and you’re onto something. But it really starts to get interesting when you dive into what you despise.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). A sense of vulnerability is in there somewhere, but if you’re not paying attention, then you’ll miss it and the gift it wraps around — namely, the ability to connect deeply to the humanity in others who know the feeling.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). As for those things you do but cannot link to any tangible gain, in those actions are clues, strands of spiritual DNA, truths. Examine those actions through a microscope and find miniature maps of your heart.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). If something is important, then it’s worth fighting for. Fighting for unimportant things doesn’t really happen. If there’s a fight over something that seems trivial, it’s only because that’s not what the fight is really about.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You’ll spend so much of your time in the service of others that when you come back to home base, you may feel like you need to reacquaint yourself with who you are and what you want.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). When your group faces a problem, you face it, too. Even if just one other person has a problem, you’ll be willing to take it on personally because you believe, at a very core level, in justice for all.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Part of you has been making plans without the other part. Get all sides together for a sit-down talk aimed at naming a few common goals. You’re as powerful as you are unified.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). People will get emotionally invested in things you might not have expected them to involve themselves with. Step back and ask, “What’s at stake? What’s really going on here?”

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Not everything you’ve believed has come through or come true but don’t let that stop you. Put your faith in a loved one, in yourself or in the wonders of life in general. You’ll have reasons to believe anew.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). The atoms that make up our cells are mostly space, so we are mostly space, and the other matter is mostly space, too. Echo the theme. Purge the unnecessary. Spaciousness brings fulfillment.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). When you can’t be knowledgeable (no one can know all things, and if they could, they’d be insufferable) then be versatile. The ability to adapt and respond is more important than the ability to know and stand correct.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 27). You’ll be focused but not serious. You’ll attract people who want to get things accomplished and laugh at the same time. The next 10 weeks see you wheeling and dealing yourself into a prime position. You’ll notice who wants your happiness more than you want it yourself. That’s a love you can count on and build a life around. Scorpio and Leo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 40, 18, 2 and 39.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTIONS: “My birth date is Dec. 18, 1952, and I recently began dating a man whose birth date is Nov. 27, 1955. This is the first time I’ve ever dated another Sagittarian. We hit it off like a house on fire when we first met, and we never run out of things to talk about. What is the likelihood that two ambitious, high-energy and fun-loving Sagittarians can have a successful relationship?”

You’ll never be bored. You have similar interests and fantastic communication. There’s mutual admiration here and healthy respect. He expands your world and supports your life goals; your influence on him runs deep, even life-changing. Long-term commitment can be an issue for Sagittarius, and you’re the stabilizing force for him. How you cross that bridge, lovingly or with resistance, sets a precedent for your future. This relationship is satisfying on so many levels and you’ll want to work for it.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Sarah Chalke stars in the television drama “Firefly Lane” based on the novel by bestselling author Kristin Hannah. The “Scrubs” alumni is a health-conscious Virgo and was born when the moon, Mercury, Mars and Pluto were in graceful, coordinated Libra. A vegetarian and an athlete, Chalke has been a ski instructor, snowboarder, hiker, kayaker and has been known to write with her toes.

Countdown to Mars Retrograde by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/countdown-to-mars-retrograde-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/countdown-to-mars-retrograde-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:39 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/countdown-to-mars-retrograde-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

Make the most of your current energy level. Take note of what you want and how much you want it. Consider what you long for, and express what you desire. Why now? Later you’ll be glad for this point of reference. In a matter of hours, Mars will do a reversal and will be traveling retrograde until mid-November, so change is afoot.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You’re given more responsibilities than the others because the general consensus is that you can handle them. Bonus: You grow stronger and more powerful by fulfilling requests.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). To have someone to bounce your ideas off of is a gift. If you don’t have this, try anyone, really, because the reflection will be fundamental to your next moves.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). It won’t be hard to find cheerleaders for team Gemini. Sometimes, it’s just about relatability. An Aquarius or Libra will lead the parade and bring out your best in these times.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Resentment is a strong energy and a hard one to get over. Bitterness follows suit. Feelings like this are like spice — a little gets the dish going and too much ruins it.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Mistakes happen. So what. Breathe in and out. Who cares? Someone, for a second, and then they don’t. There’s no use in you caring for a lifetime. Move on, move on, move on.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Loose clothes and tight relationships — that’s comfort. It feels good and cozy — until it doesn’t. Comfort is messy, and then too messy. When the line gets crossed, comfort changes into discomfort.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Life is music. Interactions have a rhythm and stick to a certain pace. You’ll groove with this music today, create it, walk in it. It can go from pop to classical to jazz, but mostly it stays in the realm of indie.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). The stoic way is fine and good, though it’s not exciting enough to engage some of the others. Letting emotions out is the only way to connect. We connect in our mess.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You can look forward to a professional exchange and the particular thrill of going from formal modes of communication to more informal, which always means the same thing: You’re liked.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). How best to show your love? Do you show it by assisting others or by encouraging others to help themselves? Each situation and relationship is unique, so there is not one blanket method that is best for all.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). People understand best people who are like them. But that excludes so many when you’re an Aquarius, as you are unique, singular and having bright ideas very much in line with your sign today.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Wouldn’t you love to know the conversations they have about you when you’re not there? But since you can’t, you make sure to drop in some interesting details that will be sure to be repeated!

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 8). You’ll strike a deal beneficial to you and to your entire family going forward. Open your idea of what “deals” are. Contracts are sacred. Not only the ones that you agree to but also the ones you create through your living by the principles of your choice. Take it seriously because destiny is forever altered by your choices. Gemini and Leo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 10, 4, 38, 19 and 16.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: “I’m an Aquarius (Jan. 23, 1972) and am dating a Sagittarius born Dec. 6, 1961. We seem like a match as we’re both very independent and require the same amount of time together — which isn’t very much — about once a week. This is a relationship that seems to work for us, but other people don’t see it as a relationship. I think we are very close though, and getting closer. Can you explain why this might work for us?”

Aquarius sees relationships as another kind of friendship. With Mars in Aries, I’ll bet you are driven by your work, your interests, your impulses — and you’re not into asking permission to do anything. Your Sagittarius has four luminaries in the sign of the archer, so he’s always on the go. The fact that you have once a week together is his version of a major commitment. Even when things progress to living together, you two will still be constantly doing your own thing and enjoying one another on your own schedule. As for the ones who don’t understand, they probably never will. Luckily, they don’t have to for you to have a fabulous time together.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Pink is a Virgo with a passionate warrior moon in Aries and natal Jupiter in show-stopping Leo. With Mars in caring, maternal Cancer, Pink has a huge heart, the proof of which is in her considerable charity work with PETA and the Red Cross. Plus, recently, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, she donated half a million dollars to a fund at the hospital where her mother worked.

Leo Moon Takes the Stage by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/leo-moon-takes-the-stage-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/leo-moon-takes-the-stage-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:39 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/leo-moon-takes-the-stage-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

Fears and insecurities don’t like to be denied, ignored or underserved. They will rage on until they are acknowledged. It doesn’t take much to calm them down. Just check in. Give attention to uncomfortable feelings. Let them have the stage so they can state the messages they bring, which, under the Leo moon, will have entertainment value.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You will have companionship, and you won’t have to worry about choosing the right person either. Just wait for someone to join you. Whoever comes along is the right person.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Instead of making your goal to create the most money or the most success, try this life-changing goal: Have the most fun. A playful spirit will attract everything you need.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Can you personally elevate the collective soul of mankind? Yes. How else would it raise? Each “you” picks up a bit of it. If not for the “you’s,” there would be no one to do it.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You have healing powers. You know this because you are one tough customer and yet were able to work magic on yourself. Whatever you did for you, you can do for them.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Procrastination is fear in disguise. Affirm to yourself that whatever you don’t know about the situation can be learned along the way. It won’t be that bad. You might even like it. Take a little bite.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). To co-create will be a thrill whether you think it’s going well or not. There will be lessons along the way. Creative collaborations are as particular a partnership as any love match.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Your mind doesn’t like an open loop. Something incomplete will haunt you. You’ll go back and back to it until you’ve either discovered the answer or made up a theory to hold you over until you do.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Destruction, which is terrible, is very different from demolition, which is necessary. You must tear down the old to make room for the new. You’re ready to let go so you can build.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). If you feel you must succeed, it means that, somewhere in the thought stream running through your head, there’s some false information. Either stop demanding success or change your definition of it.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Your rituals will have mysterious benefits. Maybe the ceremony involved in preparing your favorite beverage is more relaxing than the beverage itself. The same will apply elsewhere.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Sometimes, ideas just come to you, but don’t depend on it today. The best projects, solutions, theories, recipes and more will begin with a brainstorm. Don’t skip this step.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You don’t know what to do next, and that means you’re in an exciting position, alert with the energy that only fresh trouble can provide. Search for answers in the obvious places.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 13). Your competitive streak becomes apparent, and you are willing to fight for your position in a loved one’s heart. You’ll exchange steamy glances. This could lead somewhere interesting. Gemini and Leo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 44, 1, 13 and 27.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: The difference between connected or relational interactions and transactional interactions will be a good thing to know and stay aware of this week under the ever-appropriate Virgo sun. Venus in Leo keeps urging us to go deeper.

People often ask questions to be polite — questions they have no interest hearing the answers to. And so, unsurprisingly, they will not track the response too closely or remember them later. To reach out in sincere curiosity is to start a connection, whereas reaching out with the expected verbiage smooths the way to a transaction.

Transactional interactions are much easier to measure. They usually involve exchanges such as time or money that can be easily quantified. Relational connections are measured in things difficult to quantify, such as feelings, intuitive responses and overall experiences. The size of connected relationships can be surprising. When we experience their particular shape and weight, it is often far greater than the amount of time or effort that went into the relationship. Connection carries within it its own power source.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Niall Horan has a broad range of musical tastes and is a fan of Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Oasis and Bon Jovi. In matters of art, Virgos have an affinity for those who can move them emotionally, and the lines of genre do not matter nearly as much as style and skill. Horan was born when the moon and Venus were in Leo, which is an indication of a natural-born entertainer.

A Puzzling Uranus Reversal by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/a-puzzling-uranus-reversal-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/a-puzzling-uranus-reversal-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:35 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/a-puzzling-uranus-reversal-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

The Uranus reversal begins a backward journey that will carry through early January 2021. Our surprises are about to get more baffling, random, disparate and mysterious. This is also very thrilling, as it provides the sort of work that requires making sense of the nonsense. Life is a puzzle, the solving of which will be extremely satisfying.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Stay away from the “I did it, and so can you” type of messaging today because it’s overly simplistic and does not account for the myriad of ways that people are so different from one another.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). The reality of a situation is much better than you’re thinking it is. You just have to ask different questions of it. A person coming from a different place in life will help you frame things another way.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Any mistakes in the work will actually be mistakes of planning. The more time you spend thinking ahead and setting yourself up for a win, the better your day will go.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Your natural responses cannot be correct or incorrect. They just are. The behavior you choose after you feel a certain way can be very much wrong or right. You’ll choose carefully tonight.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). While it’s natural to sometimes feel bad, sad, worried or angry, those who stay in these states indefinitely will have a negative consequence on your well-being. When you’re choosing your company, consider tone.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). It turns out that the period of time when you felt like you were meandering was actually a long and deliberate planning stage for what’s going on with you today.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). When you are in an observant, receptive and artistic mood, “always,” “never” and other extremes of language fall away. You revel in life’s many colors and shades beyond black and white.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You’ve known things to be more work than anticipated, but today’s thing is ridiculous. Devote yourself when it’s adding up to something that will matter. This isn’t. Get out of it.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You’re still figuring out what can and cannot be done and which tasks fall neatly under your jurisdiction. It might be worth it to take on something that’s not your responsibility, even though you won’t get credit.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). There was a time when you stretched yourself to fit a role. And then, slowly, steadily, you grew to fit the title. You’re about to repeat this process with a new challenge.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Your attitude is the perfect match to get any job done, but especially the ones that have to do with extending your powers of empathy to figure out how best to help the situation along.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You won’t go wrong when you aim for tangible, quantifiable outcomes. A coach can help you along. Unambiguous feedback isn’t for everyone — only for the tough, like you.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 15). You’ve always been the star of your show, but now you’ll also be the star of the arena you’ve been trying to shine in. You’ll dominate the tasks, win the competitions and take over the leadership where appropriate. All this, plus you’ll receive adoring attention from those you love to be around. What could be better? Aries and Cancer adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 1, 11, 37, 41 and 13.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: (Part Three) An Aquarian reader recently shared her special relationship with numbers. Intrigued, I asked her to intuit a number series for myself and other readers. You can read parts one and two of this question in the archives from earlier this week.

Strong Aquarius writes: “I’ve had a very hard time in my relationship with my current boyfriend. He has had a long meth addiction, and we have struggled with this. Every time I’m ready to give up on him, his number shows constantly. Sometimes it upsets me, because I want to let him go (in my head), and it’s like the numbers are asking me to hold on and not to give up. It’s upsetting because it feels like a war between my head and my heart, and I don’t like to be told what to do. But I feel like the numbers are telling me what I should do! Numbers can’t be bent. They are solid and secure. It feels so good to talk about this!”

Number sequence, intuited by Aquarian reader: 2 3 4 7 10 12 14 15 17 18 19 21 22 24 25 28 31 37 39 43 44 72 80 27

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Among the many Jennifer Lawrence projects slated for release soon is the much-anticipated true crime drama “Mob Girl” based on the experiences of mob-boss wife Arlyne Brickman, who became an FBI informant. Lawrence is a versatile Leo born when the sun and Venus were both in the sign of entertainment and three heavy-hitting outside planets were in the sign of goal-getting, business-minded Capricorn.

Mars and Pluto Mad-Dogging by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mars-and-pluto-mad-dogging-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mars-and-pluto-mad-dogging-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:35 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mars-and-pluto-mad-dogging-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

There are many kinds of trivialities. There’s the dancing, shimmering sort that catches the light like sequins on the costume of life. Then there’s the mean, barbed sort that looks important then ensnarls all who reach into it — and there’s nothing to find there! As Mars and Pluto mad dog now, be a little skeptical. Figure out what you’re dealing with.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You’re being asked for your input because what you say has been known to change how people look at things, or because you’ve been right and/or helpful in the past. Share freely.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You’re comfortable with being different from the others, and you absolutely should be. These differences will be a gift that makes the group stronger.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). There are many levels to getting to know a subject. It can be argued that one doesn’t come to a full understanding until having taught the thing a few times. You’ll go deep today.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Even though most of you was formed through means beyond your control, you are still, at least partially, your own creator. Feel free to take artistic license with your own persona.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). The time limitations you face are the best thing that could happen to your project. You’ll get things done quickly and efficiently and produce twice as much as you would have if given double the time.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You’ll have a choice between expensive leisure and investing in something that doesn’t seem nearly as fun but will likely last for years to come, perhaps even become your legacy.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Congratulations are in order, and you will hear them so often that the biggest challenge will be not letting that go to your head. Whether or not you are successful in that, enjoy your moment to the fullest!

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Each relationship is its own continent in which the tectonic plates merge and part. Earthquakes are an inevitability. Don’t be alarmed. Think of them as a shift in boundaries.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Indifference is boring. Indifference is not invested in what happens. You don’t care what people think about you, but you very much care what happens next and are deeply invested in getting to a certain outcome.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). What you do will end up being much more interesting than the reason that brought you there in the first place. This is why this is a good day to accept invitations, regardless of the particulars.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Doing a really good job is the best decision you can make for any endeavor. Do whatever it takes to make your work stellar and to give people something to talk about and recommend.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). The fun you face with another person will teach you something, but shared challenges teach you more. Until a relationship has weathered a storm, how do you know it’s true nature?

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 13). Your head and heart wrap around unchanging truths. Certain events seem to occur out of time, indeed their timelessness is exactly why they matter. It will often play out practically by flowing great love to simple actions, dedicating yourself to the needs of others, and acting regardless of reward. Aries and Gemini adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 4, 49, 2, 5 and 16.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION REVERSAL: Yesterday, we heard from an Aquarius asking as to the intuition of numbers. She sparked my curiosity so much that I turned the question back on her, asking: “What is your favorite number? Would you intuit a series of numbers for me? When did this fascination start and can you express some of its nuances?”

Numbers have been a part of my conscious experience since I was in my teens. I always had a set of favorite numbers. Through my relationships, that group of numbers grew bigger. Some of the numbers associate with people that I feel play a huge role in my life. After I got divorced, I spent a lot of time alone. I had an evening when I sat down and wrote out all these numbers that resonated with me during that time period. Now, numbers flood in and correlate with each other. One example: My ex-husband’s birthday is April 4. My current sweetheart told me his favorite number was 44. Once when we were in a separation point, he had put a sticker on his car with the number 44, and I saw him do it in my dream! (More on this in Saturday’s column.)

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Among Alfred Hitchcock’s abundant contributions to filmmaking was the word “McGuffin,” meaning an object that everybody is searching for, like the Maltese falcon or the mysterious briefcase in “Pulp Fiction.” The master of suspense was born under a sun and Venus in the sign of entertainment, accented by the moon and Jupiter in mysterious Scorpio.

Meaning Under the Mercury and Mars Opposition by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/meaning-under-the-mercury-and-mars-opposition-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/meaning-under-the-mercury-and-mars-opposition-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:34 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/meaning-under-the-mercury-and-mars-opposition-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

During this Mercury and Mars opposition, some will be fascinated by activities that are not so meaningful, such as games. Others are into what’s meaningful but not so fascinating, like time with loved ones doing chores. It’s all pleasant enough, while lending appreciation for the rare activities that are simultaneously meaningful and engaging.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You only had to touch the hot stove once to know what that was all about. You’ll find yourself in the same position of curiosity with a person who, like that stove, will teach you on the first go around.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Of all the consumables available in the world, none will give you the enrichment you crave today. This can only be found in nonmaterial things, which is to say, treasures of the heart and soul.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You’ll be intrigued by something that promises to progress in difficulty. There’s a sweet spot of challenge to be met. If the task is too hard, then you’ll disengage. And if it’s too easy, then that goes double.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). People who think, believe and behave as you do are, well, geniuses, of course! You’ll have the opportunity to spend more time with such people if you set it up today.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You think you’re bothered by what’s happening, but what you’re really bothered by is your judgment of it. Perhaps, you’ve assigned a disempowering meaning to it, but you can change your mind about that.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Wanting to make people happy isn’t an intrinsically negative quality, though you’d be wise to poke around at your motives for doing so. If you think you must do and be more to earn the relationship, back off and do less instead.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). However strong passions may burn, that does not automatically lend the knowledge to make a thing happen. But at least it’s an excuse to reach out for answers.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Trying to do everything at once will lead to accomplishing nothing or worse, mistakes that set you back, nullifying the progress you’ve already made. Focus on one task until it’s done.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). All things being equal, you’d prefer if others would find you interesting. It takes more work to be interesting, but since you love the way it pays off, you’ll make every effort.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). According to Socrates, the two tragedies of life are not to get your heart’s desire or to get your heart’s desire. Today brings an interesting compromise that helps you escape either tragedy.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You seek to attract a certain sort of person. Because you know so much about who this is, including likes, dislikes, needs and wants, you can mold your offerings accordingly.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). In this dance, the other person isn’t following the same choreographer as you. It’s a little out of step. There’s a dip without support, a leap without a catch. Change your part or embrace it as lopsided art.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 24). There’s a quiet power building in you. The next 10 weeks will bring social victories, style changes and lifestyle improvements. Polish your talents with vigor. You’ll follow all leads in January and one connects you to a rocket blasting off. The joys of 2021 are made all the richer by recent lessons and discoveries. Taurus and Pisces adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 9, 12, 38, 7 and 39.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: (This is part four of a series that began on Monday. See the archives for earlier installments.) A Virgo manager seeks to treat employees with equanimity. “Whenever the Sagittarius does something wrong, I correct and retrain. Whenever the Aquarius does something wrong, I’m frustrated and I blame…”

You can approach the problem as a chance to improve your interpersonal skills and business acumen, but why go for the small potatoes here, Virgo? Instead, seize the real opportunity for soul growth with the following line of inquiry:

—What are you afraid of in the situation?

—What about the Aquarius reminds you of yourself?

—When have these kinds of frustrations and fears come up for you before, especially in early life?

—How do you blame yourself for that situation?

—What is another way to frame the situation?

—What would it look like if you brought 10% more compassion to the situation?

—What would it take for you to let go of your blame for yourself and this version of your history?

—Can you let go?

—Can you extend the same compassion to the Aquarius?

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Pedro Almodovar emerged from an impoverished youth to international renown. His next release, “Madres Paralelas,” starring Penelope Cruz, is the story of two mothers who give birth on the same day. The Libran auteur was born when the moon and Venus were in Scorpio, exercising a magnetic pull to the underlying motives of human behavior.

Mars and Saturn Turn the Crank by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mars-and-saturn-turn-the-crank-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mars-and-saturn-turn-the-crank-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:31 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mars-and-saturn-turn-the-crank-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

The end is the beginning. The answer brings up the next question. The solution produces a new problem. The turbine of the world is unfinished business. Love is unfinished business, too, though certainly more pleasant than revenge and suffering. Mars square Saturn suggests we choose very carefully the crank from which we turn our worlds.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Conflicting tensions, opposing emotions and polarities abound today. Even so, finding common ground or a mutually agreeable compromise won’t be nearly as hard as you think it will be.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). We misremember to construct narratives that put us in control of our fate. Who is to say that’s not the better way of thinking of things? Wherever there’s a choice, put yourself in the driver’s seat.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Who gives you care and support? If many do, you’ll be torn about where to put your attention. If you’ve a lack of support, consider where you might assemble some.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). If just about anyone can do it, then you probably won’t want to. You are feeling your individuality in a big way and you’re simply in no mood to be lumped into the masses.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Maybe you don’t revel in your solitude, but you have a healthy tolerance of it that keeps you from making terrible choices for company out of fear. Solo missions are actually enormously pleasurable for you now.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). There is nothing great or meek about leadership; it’s just a position, the same as “support team member” is a position and “service provider” is a position. Today’s questions: Which position do you want?

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). At any given moment, you are riding somewhere on the wheel of feelings, though you seldom stop to identify the space. Is it inspired or silly? Bored or competitive? It will be a valuable if not liberating thing to note.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Focus on building relationships and everything else will fall into place. Don’t worry about making inroads with the right people. There are no right people. Just start where you are.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). When a person is distant to you in the moment, you can’t help but wonder what or whom it is that they are close to. It is possible to be distant to everything.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Complain if you need to. Venting is healthy if done in the right way. Also try on this question to see if it helps: What if you’re right where you’re supposed to be, doing exactly what’s needed?

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). It’s frustrating not to know what people need from you. But once they clearly convey their expectations, you’ll decide what you can agree to and follow-up by hitting every mark.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). There’s someone whose presence you find invigorating. Yet, for mysterious reasons, you may avoid this person. Just because a feeling is good doesn’t mean it’s comfortable.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 24). You’ll make impressive progress with goals and timelines. Then, everything changes. You’re gloriously versatile! You’ll love the surprises and twists, making a success of various challenges, tasks and leadership-styles. You really will find fun and fulfillment with whatever you take on, work, leisure and beyond. Gemini and Aquarius adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 14, 17, 3, 38 and 6.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: (Part One) “My husband and I are in the process of house-hunting for us, our daughters and my mother. She has been severely depressed, is isolated and lonely, and has wished for a long time to be closer to us. I am an only child, and my mother has given so much to me throughout my life. She sacrificed so that I may have a better life than she did, which has worked according to her plan. I feel I owe her tremendously and it would be fulfilling to know I have made her happy. Yet, I’m still very afraid of this step. We have not always gotten along. She can be tricky. And her depression seems circumstantial, but what if it doesn’t lift with this change of circumstance? And my mother is relatively young (50s) so this arrangement could theoretically last a very long time. What do you have to say to an earth sign (me) fire sign (my mother) mix living under the same roof?”

Of course, this generous-hearted venture will have a tremendous impact on your entire family, and it sounds like you are ready and all-in. As an earth sign, you would take well to the traditional advice such as staying ever-mindful of boundaries and brushing up on the tenants of co-dependence. I’m going to fly in the face of that. (To be continued tomorrow…)

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Forever known for his role as Ron Weasley of the “Harry Potter” franchise, Rupert Grint is also television series veteran by now, most recently with the thriller series “Servant.” Grint was born when the sun and Mercury were in Virgo, suggesting a stellar work ethic and winning attitude toward life. These Virgo placements bode well for child stars, immunizing them against the slings and arrows of celebrity adulthood.

There’s a goldilocks situation going on in the realm of thought with this Venus-Pluto opposition. Our thoughts will have a tendency to alternately blur by too fast, chug on too slow or ride at a cognitive flow that feels just right. How able are you to control the speed of thought? Consciously control your breathing and you’re off to a good start.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Avoid getting defensive with your teammates. You cannot be in a defensive position and on the same side all once. What triggers the defense? Assess the validity of that threat.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Everyone has emotional kryptonite. It’s easier to avoid yours if you know what it is. When you feel weakened by a situation, this is a gift. Identify the contributing factors.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). When change is in the air, you sense it before anyone else. You notice that something feels different before you know exactly what it is. On high alert, you’ll figure it out soon enough.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). There is a beautiful new influence coming into your world, one that seems like it would need to be organized for and around, but that is not the case. It doesn’t need to be arranged, only allowed.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Learning takes place in several modalities. You move your body to learn. You talk your subject out, listen on it, write about it. Trying to learn using only one modality is like trying to walk on only one leg.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). What were the underlying issues that started your journey to change? It may be hard to remember this, but try because it’s worth noting the differences and similarities between then and now.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). When you feel loved at the deepest levels and for something beyond your identity, your superficial successes or your usefulness to others, ego fades. You don’t need it so much.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Even though you are not, strictly speaking, a newcomer to a situation, going in with a beginner’s mind will increase your luck exponentially. Innocent and unbiased reception allows you to see and absorb more.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Rituals are, essentially, habits with a heightened sense of meaning. You have a fantasy about incorporating certain rituals into your life. Start small, by attaching a small action to an already established habit.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You feel pulled toward one activity or person more than the others. Is it a calling or just a curiosity? These distinctions don’t matter as you flow your attention to what does.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You’re looking out for others. You’ll focus on risk. You’ll dig with excellent questions. What are the unknown unknowns? Which solutions fare better than the alternatives?

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You know your values, and you think often about what you really want. But these things change. The shifts are palpable today. Reassess. You will surprise yourself.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 30). You’ll communicate your heart beautifully, and others will reciprocate often throughout the year. You’ll speak words that become your future. Others witness you doing this and want you to do the same for them. New friends are featured, as well as a fun and unexpected escape. You’ll return with big ideas and motivation. Gemini and Pisces adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 40, 22, 1 and 18.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: The Venus-Pluto opposition recalls how every move you make involves the calculation of risk. Most of the calculations were made ages ago. For instance, when you were a baby learning to walk, your brain took on an entire set of calculations. Those that have long been settled upon since were added to your unconscious and automatic knowledge, and they have served you from that office in your mind ever since. The new moves you make, endeavors you take on, people you decide to get to know will require new risk assessment. What could go wrong? How could you get hurt? Your mind is constantly working it out, an effort that takes plenty of energy. This week, you may get physically tired from the mental exertion of these calculations, a sign that you are indeed doing what it takes to move forward into a future that you sense is going to be, in many ways, very different from anything we’ve known. The full Pisces moon will fill emotions to the brim. It could be catharsis or joy effervescent, and it will spill or bubble over, whichever way it goes.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: At age 16, the adventurous Cameron Diaz was traveling the world as a model. At 21, she was hired without any previous acting experience to play the lead in “The Mask.” Her travels had taught her the kind of courage and confidence that couldn’t be picked up in an acting class. Diaz is a level-headed Virgo with Jupiter, the good luck planet, in worldly Sagittarius.

Corn Moon by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/corn-moon-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/corn-moon-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:27 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/corn-moon-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

This full moon in Pisces is traditionally referred to as the “corn moon” or the “harvest moon.” Pisces, being the realm of emotion and intuition, endows the moon with spiritual gifts for any takers. There is no need to wait until you feel a lack. Spiritual fullness and enrichment is an enhancement of any circumstance or time of life.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You’ve made overgenerous gestures in the past and never been sorry for them, though you’ll toss and turn at night if you think you could have done more in the situation.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Those who are cut off from their own experiences will be uncomfortable embracing the full realm of experience, including some that most others experience in their day-to-day lives. Try to understand instead of judge this.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You’ve still got a chance to go where the sun is hot and the sunbathers are cool. Get your work done so you can enjoy your leisure. Get busy so you can have your fun.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Because you are open and ready for new experiences, life will come rushing in to greet you. You’ll have fascinating exchanges, and you’re an essential part of the experience for others.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You’re in the middle-person position and therefore tasked to translate and mitigate. What one person thinks is hilarious will fall flat with the next. Consider your audience before you forward.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). A friend minimizes the mistakes and maximizes the attributes and is generally on your side. Such friends help you understand what loyalty really looks like.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). The way things are laid out will make a huge difference in your efficiency and also in the feeling you have about an experience. You’ll do much in the way of organizing — an effort well spent.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Tension is rigidity; relaxation is flexibility. A very special relationship will thrive because you strike just the right balance between these two states.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Vacations aren’t always tremendously relaxing. In these times, they aren’t even tremendously vacationing. Nonetheless, there’s a place in your mind where you can take a break. Find it; do it.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You’ll put in the extra effort to take good care of yourself. Since you know that lack of sleep or proper nourishment makes you cranky, you’ll be sure to plan to get both.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). The voice of inspiration is difficult to hear if your inner chatter is loud enough drown it. Exercise is the easiest and fastest way to quiet your mind.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You feel powerful but it’s not even the start of what you can become. Take charge of what you have control over and give no energy to the things outside of that.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 1). Your birthday endowment: bold ideas, brilliant execution and plenty of support. You’ll glue broken things back together including relationships and fragments of your own story. You’ll unearth a mystery and get peace for your family and community. Early 2021 is a cycle of abundance on all levels. Libra and Capricorn adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 3, 13, 2 and 29.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: “I’m a Taurus, and I don’t believe him half the time. He’s a Cancer. I don’t think he lies because he disrespects me; I think it’s because he’s trying to protect me from his nature, which is to do things that I will not, and do not, like and which, in fact, break my heart. What do you say about it?”

Your earthy instinct is spot-on, and it sounds as if you have compassion beyond even your substantial natal endowments. It isn’t necessary to buy all the way in to any story. You can still love him and challenge his facts, or at least realize that the way he sees it seems correct to him but might not hold up to other scrutiny. Stay wise and carry a kernel of distrust. Know that everyone has their own set of cognitive distortions that warp perception to the needs of psyche. An attitude of slight skepticism is the best chance you have at getting to a truth that is close enough — a truth you can live with.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Gloria Estefan says this of a paralyzing bus accident 30-years ago: “My fans came to my rescue: I could feel people’s prayers like a physical energy — millions were sending me good thoughts and connecting in a way I felt as a physical presence, like electricity.” Estefan was born under a sun and Mercury in nurturing, healthy Virgo and Venus and Jupiter in loyal Libra. Her natal moon and Saturn are in spicy Sagittarius.

When caught outside in a lightning storm, the safest place to go is inside a car. If struck, the car might not fare so well, but the person inside will likely be fine. Which do you most identify with as Mars, the planet of intense, electric action, reverses direction? Are you the storm? The lightning? The car? Or are you just someone looking for shelter?

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You know what you need to do. Sure, you’re scared. It’s pretty simple actually, and though it might take 30 words to say this, it all boils down to three — you’ve got this.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). What is the difference between a burden and a crutch? How you use it. The actual item (habit, person) could be the same in either case, but your use of it will make all the difference.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). The distractions could get expensive and are best avoided entirely. You have a sense of where you’re supposed to be, and it’s a productive day so long as you stick to your course.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Someone loves you. For this person, it’s like you’re there even when you’re not there because your influence is constantly considered. Does knowing this make you feel like you need to be a little more careful with your input?

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). The cardinal typically lives three years in the wild and can survive for decades in captivity. Happily? Scientists do not test for that part. As for you, bright bursts of happiness, over in seconds, will be remembered for years.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). It is possible to improve almost anything, and it’s done through the development of your senses. Senses get keener with experience. Awareness opens up with each new experience.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). There’s a time for pure fun and a time to feel the gravity that keeps us from flying off the face of the planet. Sure, it causes things we don’t like — falls, sagging, teardrops and so much work, and yet, no gravity means no life.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Bad manners are often just a lack of training or a difference in background. You will not be sorry for displaying tolerance and reserving judgment until you really understand the person and the factors at play.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Be aware of what you make important with your focus and time. You don’t have to agree to the same reality other people are experiencing. See it differently and, like magic, it is different.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). People who present differently from how the majority of a group is showing up will be met with misunderstanding, fear or skepticism. Not by you though. You’re fascinated and will learn more because of it.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Aquarius has a talent for not only accepting the differences of others but also seeking out diversity wherever possible — a talent that’s made possible by an overflowing well of that rare and much-needed attitude: tolerance.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). There’s something about your life that seems to hinge on having a certain conversation. Probably, you’ve been avoiding this, but you no longer should. Today is the day to try and have it.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 9). You have mighty powers of focus and stamina and they will support you well in the next ten weeks. By November, you’ll have the means to invest in an exciting and lucrative venture. A location change will invigorate you in 2021. Your family will grow and so will your responsibilities. You wouldn’t have it any other way. Aries and Gemini adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 30, 1, 27 and 29.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: “Should I pursue a photography business? (March 28, 1956). Also, will he (Jan. 6, 1952) ever marry me? This is my second time around, but oddly, enough he has never been married before. Is there a reason for this that I’m not seeing? I feel like if he would finally commit, then we’d have an amazing time together. So far, it’s been a warm attraction, no fireworks, but there’s real potential. We’ve been seeing each other for two years.”

“Potential” is always a gamble. As much as you like risk, Aries, it’s very difficult to build a solid relationship on it. If you knew that things would continue at this same level of excitement or lower, would you still want to be with him? Because I have a strong feeling that you’ve already seen all of the “amazingness” this connection has to offer. Would you still go forward if you believed the best was behind you?

Since you’re in the mood to take a risk, the photography business prospect looks hot. Born under a Scorpio moon, you have the intensity it takes to create compelling art. Mercury in Pisces brings imagination to your work — also empathy. Are you drawn toward ethereal themes? Experiment with digital manipulations and enhancements to give a sense of otherworldliness.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Virgo Michele Williams fits comfortably into iconic roles like Marilyn Monroe and Glinda the Good Witch. Born when the sun, moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn were all in Virgo, the sign of health, nurturing and self-discipline, her natal chart has longevity written all over it. Hers is an astrological chart that suggests an evergreen quality to image, career and life.

Mercury and Pluto square off to highlight many ways to miscommunicate about sensitive, difficult and private matters. It is secret wounds that cause the worst interpersonal flare-ups, as we reflexively defend our deepest cuts. Pluto points out that it causes as much pain in the world to take offense as it does to give offense.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). At the root of a predicament is a motive. To understand how the predicament came to be, you must understand the motive. Today, the answers will defy logic. Today, the answers will be hidden in a heart.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Hesitation, reticence, dread, anxiety — these are all messages sent from one part of yourself to another. Listen and heed the call. It will help you steer away from the rocks and into deeper waters and calmer situations.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Who is in control? If you know this, you will begin to know how best to work the situation and possibly turn it to your advantage. If you misunderstand this, the consequences will teach you where you went wrong.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Love doesn’t solve every problem. For instance, you can’t eat it, nor can you rely on it to make two lives jive together in perfect sync. Love is a crucial ingredient in the recipe, but it’s not the only ingredient.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). The one who makes the first move is always more vulnerable — to rejection, judgment, errors and more. That’s what makes the first move a power move. The advantages are commensurate with the risk.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You’ll be the mouthpiece for the group, but first you’ll be its ears. You’ll gather the info and then present it, putting minds at ease and settling expectations into just the snug spot where they’re most likely to be met.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Saying “we should get together” almost never winds up as a plan. It’s almost as though people who say it don’t want to actually see one another. You’ll have luck extending a specific invitation.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You’re in a position to give exactly what was asked for, and it’s a good thing because, in this matter, close will not be good enough. Before you deliver, check and double-check your work.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). People close to you know which of your buttons to push and how hard. You have the power to rewire the inner circuitry however you like. They’ll get pressed, and what happens next is up to you.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You’ve received so many unexpected benefits from an endeavor that what you were originally trying to accomplish doesn’t even seem that important anymore. Still … it’s time to get back to it.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Some people seem like they want to be in a relationship, but what they really want to be is served. When you stop providing what’s being explicitly or implicitly asked of you, what happens?

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Circumstances remain the same, but their significance to you changes. Because of this, you’ll process your environment differently and experience a deep sense of calm.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 20). You’ll break a karmic chain and favorably alter the future for generations. This is not done in one crucial moment but rather through small daily decisions that cement a way of being. A strange trade opens financial resources to you. The relationship sector is positively ripe with sweetness, love and laughter. Leo and Libra adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 9, 33, 7, 14 and 1.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: What comes with the you-package? What’s it like to talk to you, love you, live with you? As the sun moves into Libra, the sign of partnership, we are wise to consider our own value in relationships. It’s a cosmically perfect time to gain awareness around this key part of being.

To take up the cause of another is to put one’s own agenda on the back burner for a time to prioritize the other person. Not everyone is capable of this selflessness. There are some who are so afraid of losing themselves they cannot operate in this order. Even when they help, they have their own reasons for doing so, which they keep front of mind. It is fine to accept help from these types as long as you don’t go in blindly. Smooth dealings absolutely rely on understanding other people. The greater the understanding, the more ease there will be.

The rules of transaction are different from the rules of love. To treat a relationship based on quantifiable exchange, as though it were based on less tangible qualities such as loyalty and adoration, is a mistake that will have consequences. Expectations are different for various types of relationships. To get this wrong is to create a degree of suffering — which is what happens when expectations get set and unmet.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Academy Award-winning actress Sophia Loren is a Virgo born when Venus and Neptune were in Virgo. Because Virgo energy lends emphasis on excellent self-care, health, fitness and nutrition, it is in many ways like a magic elixir of youth. Loren’s career began when she won a beauty pageant at age 14, and she remains a radiant model of elegance.

The sun and moon converge in Virgo for the new moon pause, a catch of breath, a measured exhale in the dark. Maybe someday we will know our place in the greater design. For now, the energy of Virgo urges us to bring our quality of character, our virtue or, as the Greeks elegantly named it, our “habitual excellence” to all things.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Competitive urges can be exciting to follow, but there’s risk here, too. Some of your impulses will be to do dangerous things and you’ll quickly rule them out or water them down to a more appropriate intensity.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). It’s like you’re waiting for something to happen, though you’re not sure what since nothing has been ordered, planned or promised. This is your intuition turned all the way up.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). It seems counterintuitive, but coming across tremendous good fortune is generally not what makes people happy, unless they feel that the luck is earned. Small earned luck brings more gladness than big dumb luck.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You’ll be very busy, and mainly it’s your own fault. You are so vivacious, knowledgeable and attractive that everyone wants a piece of your time and attention.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Casual elegance, kindness, worldliness — these are qualities you are attracted to in others, you aspire to embody and you are credited with today, though maybe behind your back.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). People make decisions for the reasons that make sense to them. You’d love to know those reasons. Was a choice made out of desire or a lack of other options? You’ll learn answers you can bank on.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Be careful what you acknowledge in others because you can count on getting more of it. Focus on the kindnesses you’d enjoy an abundance of. If you give lots of attention to bad behaviors, they will continue, too.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Today brings a suspenseful scenario, so enjoy the exquisite tension of mystery at play. You could guess 12 times and still not predict this one.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). It will be the daily kindnesses — feeding someone, driving them, listening to them — that add up to the stuff of good relationships. Even so, you’ll throw in the extras because it’s so easy for you to give in that way.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). There is no persuasion without observation, no influence without understanding the needs and wants of others. If all you do is open an inquisitive mind to the behaviors of others, you’ll grow in influence.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). It’s like a wind-up toy: you turn the key, set it on the ground and release. It should be predictable, what happens next, but somehow it isn’t. The same movement in a different environment changes the outcome.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). It’s the higher virtues that call to you today — courage, nobility, loyalty — the ones that work as well in the modern world as they did in more feudal times.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 17). Of your many talents, the one that gleams at the top of this new cycle is your knack for finding and making mutually beneficial arrangements. You bring people together and create scenarios that only you could. An exciting breakthrough in your personal and financial life happens in January. Aquarius and Pisces adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 4, 39, 2, 50 and 13.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: “Why has she stopped flirting with me, liking me and making me a priority? My guess is that someone else has come into the picture for her. How can I get her back to thinking I’m the one for her? She is a Virgo. I’m a Capricorn.”

As a rule, people do what works for them. If your Virgo is getting something from another interaction that she deems more worthy of her attention than what she is getting in the relationship with you, then it is only natural that she’d wander over to that.

One of the many excellent qualities that go with earth signs is the innate understanding of the value of work. In light of this, and the fact that both you and your Virgo share this earth sign value, you might consider gearing your approach with the frame of “labor.”

What creates emotional labor is asking people to behave in a way that is counter to their natural impulses. If they have to mentally control themselves in any way, this is work. The most attractive relationships are the ones that require the least work. Tune in Saturday for more astral insights on the topic of emotional labor.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Virgo racing champion Jimmie Johnson began his motorsports career racing 50cc bikes at age 4 and went on to become a seven-time champion in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Virgos are known for their disciplined, hardworking, methodical ways. Johnson also has a strong current of passionate, risk-taking energy in his chart with four natal luminaries in fire signs.

Mercury Change: Communication Cuts by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mercury-change-communication-cuts-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mercury-change-communication-cuts-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:18 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/mercury-change-communication-cuts-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

We’re headed into a cycle of communication that cuts through the noise. It happens in messages that are sharp, well defined and honest. It happens in moments of clarity and, sometimes, urgency. This is the gift of Mercury in Scorpio: In the quest to share what is essential, formality, ambiguity and fear will fall to the wayside.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). To be in touch with reality but not bound to it — that is the existential sweet spot you’ll hit today. You’ll be a player on the stage, pretending while never losing sight of the fact that this is only a role.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). The question of the day: If you knew that everything you gave a person would be passed forward to someone else, would it change your offerings? And if so, how?

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). There are good surprises and bad surprises, and yet you’d really prefer no surprises today. You’d rather people do as you do — which is to say, set up an expectation and then deliver on it!

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You’ll have the sensation of many feelings happening at once, and the loudest ones get through. Life gets more interesting once you handle those loud feelings and settle into the nuances.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You’re a fixer, but not everyone’s a fixer. There’s an art to figuring out which problems to get into. Whatever you take on, it will touch you, mold you and ultimately define you. So, what here is really yours?

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You can’t un-ring a bell. Someone close to you will be unable to resist the impulse, even though ringing that bell is essentially “crying wolf” with the shake of a wrist. It’s unhelpful, as there’s no emergency.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). People feel different things in different places. You are a place, too — a roaming place with its own emotional atmosphere. Everywhere you go, you carry your weather with you.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). In the digital world, you learn aspects of a person’s being that are, essentially, abstract. There are many digital options, and yet, realistically, there is no substitute for sharing a vicinity with another person.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). There’s no perfect option. Each has benefits and pitfalls. Not knowing a pitfall keeps you in fear. So when you stumble into the pit, appreciate what’s happened. It’s better to know.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You’ve a stellar memory these days, but keeping records is still very important. Writing, taking pictures and more helps you keep things straight and frees your mental energy for more important things.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Do not underestimate the power of context, which is largely about environment. It is easier to behave well in an environment that holds no temptations.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You are beginning to see yourself as a new person. You will become who you are in your mind’s eye. Be daring. Try new visions. You can always change your mind later.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 27). Being right, important and powerful is an ego inflator. But being free is a soul inflator. You’d rather have the kind of levity that comes with freedom, and this becomes a guiding principle of your year. You’ll find fulfillment in fascinating work and people who give you the room to be yourself. Aries and Virgo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 18, 9, 6, 22 and 43.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: SATURN REPORT: The things you see over the course of the week are mostly what you’ve already seen for hundreds and hundreds of days. And yet, it is still possible for them to be new if approached with a “beginner’s mind.”

Learning can only occur to the level of unknowing. Those who think they already know cannot learn. Happiness and open-mindedness go together. To approach a situation with an open mind is more difficult for those who have worked hard to assemble their understanding of the scene. It’s harder to let go of old ideas than it is to start fresh in an unknown arena. The direction change of Saturn offers a shortcut to increased vitality: Seek situations in which you have zero prior experience.

LUNAR NEWS: People cry when they are happy, and they cry when they are sad. They laugh out of joy, and out of a sense of loss. Maybe it’s because the two extremes of emotion, excitement and fear have a similar presentation in the body. Or maybe we don’t understand the reason, just as we don’t understand the rhyme and range of our feelings, especially in the middle of having them. Understanding isn’t what’s needed this week anyway. As the moon swells to fullness and emotional expansion, try acceptance, tolerance and love.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Whether sharing lifestyle tips on Goop.com or filming movie projects, Gwyneth Paltrow applies Libran elegance and style. Paltrow possesses the strong aesthetic of one born when the sun, Mercury, Uranus and Pluto were all in artistic Libra. Venus in playful Leo shows an endless wellspring of creativity and a strong connection to children, while Mars in Virgo lends organization and practicality.

Full Moon Preshow in Pisces by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/full-moon-preshow-in-pisces-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/full-moon-preshow-in-pisces-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:04:18 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/full-moon-preshow-in-pisces-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

The past is a good place to go to school and a terrible place to vacation. Sure, good times were had. Also, mistakes were made, opportunities overlooked and more. During this full moon preshow in Pisces, look back only long enough to make a summary of your recent lessons. Tomorrow, we push ahead with the full moon in fresh Aries.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). It won’t be enough to do the thing once, although doing a thing once a day for the next four weeks will work wonders. Now the question is, how are you going to remind yourself?

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Your capacity to delight others is large and ever-expanding. You get such a thrill from seeing their smiles that the quest has become, by now, a sweet addiction.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). It’s not a stretch to say that relationships matter more to you than anything else in life, or even more than life itself, since you gladly give so much of your time and breath to making them run beautifully.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). How readily do you forgive? If you do decide that someone needs forgiveness, you’ll take it through a process. Your conscious awareness of this process will help you sort out today’s action.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Generous and helpful, you have plenty to offer people. Avoid giving it in the form of advice though, especially the unsolicited variety. Most people don’t even listen to the advice they actually asked for.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Age-old wisdom holds up for good reason. Truth endures. Well over a millennia ago, Plato said, “For a man to conquer himself is the first and noblest of all victories.” This still applies today.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). There are certain people around who give you such a warm feeling that it’s like the two of you are much better friends than your actual friendship history would suggest. It’s OK because the feeling is mutual.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Laughing is intimacy. When you make someone laugh, they are connecting with you on a deeper than surface level — a level of truth, pain and vulnerability.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). The reason not to participate in gossip is that afterward you’d feel dirty, and the next time you saw the person you’d spoken ill of, you would feel even worse. That’s reason enough to stay out of it.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). It’s like all of your life is being run by a scientific inquiry. You’ll make a prediction and then conduct an experiment to see what occurs. Be sure to record it all, because that will ultimately be your key to success.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). It’s easier to make a thing happen when you want it so badly that you’re having trouble thinking of anything else.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). What gets confusing is when you don’t know if you love a person, or you love your projected fantasy about who that person is. The question will have more relevance today when you’re likely to be thrown by someone’s behavior.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 30). Because you prize intimacy over power, you’ll enjoy a sweet stretch for relationships in which the vulnerable sharing of feelings allows for continuously joyful connections. Your influence in a group will lead to money in November. You’ll invest well, which leads to lifestyle upgrades down the line. Aries and Gemini adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 1, 49, 3, 27 and 41.

COSMIC QUESTION: “Virgo here. Why do I have to touch the pole at the end of my street every single time I pass it? If I’m on foot, then it’s easy. But when I’m driving, I have to stop and get out and touch it and get back in. Stupid superstition.”

Virgo is known for a vigilant quality of energy that can easily tip toward ritualistic behaviors. Such drives are, at their root, efforts to gain agency. Then again, you would be hard-pressed to find any human who wasn’t trying to feel more in control of their personal realm. All the creatures are only trying to survive and thrive in whatever way seems most accessible at the time. Finding points of leverage and power is an essential part of this. Your brain has linked up touching that post with gaining a sense of control. Maybe it’s nonsensical, but most people think plenty of nonsense every day. The particular brand of nonsense varies widely from person to person and can get very idiosyncratic indeed. Just chalk it up to your mind trying to gain a greater sense of control over your world and be compassionate with yourself. Now, look at the bigger picture. What would need to change for you to feel more in control of your scene in general?

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Happy 18th birthday to Maddie Ziegler the dance innovator, actress and alter-ego to the pop star Sia. Ziegler was born when the sun was in Libra, a Venus-ruled and graceful air sign that also happens to be the sign of artists and designers. Up next for Ziegler, more design collaborations as well as a starring role in the highly anticipated Steven Spielberg remake of “West Side Story.”

Passionate Connections Under a Fire Sign Trine by Holiday Mathis https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/passionate-connections-under-a-fire-sign-trine-by-holiday-mathis/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/passionate-connections-under-a-fire-sign-trine-by-holiday-mathis/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2020 05:03:41 +0000 https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/10/01/passionate-connections-under-a-fire-sign-trine-by-holiday-mathis/ hhd@get.creators.com (Holiday Mathis)

Dramatic connections and mixed emotions figure into this passionate fire sign trine involving Mercury in Leo and Mars in Aries. Keep in mind that the hot feelings burn on an energy source like strong currents of care, deep-rooted fear or attraction in excess. The other thing to remember is that no feeling lasts forever, so enjoy or endure as applicable.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). The day comes at you all exclamation points and promises and delivers on them like a proper optimist. So many good things are lobbed your way that you’ll have to juggle.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Go for the small win. Success breeds success, and the scale doesn’t matter in the least. It’s the feeling — the alignment of intention, result and subsequent satisfaction — that creates more of the same.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You’ll wonder if there’s something you’re not doing but should be doing to help your loved ones live better. Keep in mind that, in certain instances, pulling back and not helping can be the biggest help.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). What you’ve longed for year after year is still coming together. Do not doubt that some of the important geography of your life is forming in its own time, slowly and inevitably.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You will remember things differently than the other people around you. Write down your impressions to preserve the details because, later, you’ll be glad for these notes.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). The key to success is three-pronged: know what you want; make a plan; stick with it. This sounds simple, but if it really were, everyone would be doing it all of the time.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). There are many different kinds of revenge, but the best one is the private acknowledgment from you to you that you have risen so far above a situation that it no longer impacts your mind.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Good fortune follows socially astute moves, such as including everyone, making introductions and lobbing the conversational ball in excellent, interesting and positive directions.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You live like it’s nobody else’s job to make you happy. With the responsibility squarely on your shoulders today, the world becomes your personal theme park.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). It’s always fascinating the way different people’s demeanors and energies improve when they get around that attentive person who listens and laughs with them. This sort of high-quality interaction doesn’t need to be such a rarity.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). It’s not every day that you come across an endeavor that can capture and hold your full attention. Once you give yourself over to it, there is no going back.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You may not have a great deal of support from the outside right now, but you are skilled at being a supportive person and will do well to turn that energy in on yourself. It’s a day to be your own champion.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 16). Your superpower is your incredible imagination. Direct it to create relationships you want, pursue far-flung interests and pull together scenes that others wouldn’t have thought possible. Team this amazing sense of vision with great faith and it will be as though you have harnessed the winds of fortune to do your bidding. Aries and Taurus adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 4, 15, 44 and 49.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: Monday, Mercury trines Mars and the sun is in conjunction with Mercury. The result: Most people would rather be loved than feared. Fear makes people respond and to experience the power of the fearsome can be thrilling. However, love breeds loyalty that goes beyond conditions. Love is an overall attitude, position and state-of-being that renders extensive rule-making unnecessary. The power of love is not so much thrilling as it is infinitely fortifying.

These days, it’s easy to fall into the same feeling day after day. Tuesday’s Leo new moon is a zesty refresher to our enthusiasm for life. Live in one state and it will seem like the only way to feel. But that’s a lie. Humans are meant for an entire range of emotion. Running through the gamut of tones reminds us how transient feelings really are. Right now, it’s much better to force yourself in and out of moods than to stay stuck in one for too long.

Generally, the last week of the Leo sun is a study in our own effectiveness. If there’s a result we’re getting that we love, it’s because of what we’re giving. Give more of it to get more of it. As for the unwanted results, the recent Uranus change makes sure that undesirable results are even less tolerable, more obvious and in urgent need of addressing. Handle the little problems before they get big.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: One interesting aspect of Madonna’s natal chart is the overwhelming number of planets in her 12th house. With her natal sun, Venus and Uranus all in the sign that rules the subconscious, and Leo being her 12th house, too, Madonna is a powerful creator of all she imagines. Her dreams, artistic whims and intuitive leanings will continue to fascinate all around her in perpetuity.
