Multiple people hit by car outside Arlington Stop and Shop, police say

Multiple people were hit by a car outside a Stop & Shop in Arlington Saturday morning, according to police.

An 87-year-old Belmont man pulled into the grocery store at 905 Massachusetts Ave and struck an occupied park vehicle and a building, according to police. The man then reversed the vehicle and struck multiple pedestrians, Arlington Police Chief Julie Flaherty said in a statement.

A 61-year-old Arlington woman and a 70-year-old Randolph man were transported to local hospitals, police said. The driver was treated at the scene before heading to an area hospital, law enforcement said.

The owner of the parked vehicle, a woman from Harwich, was not injured, according to police.

Police said they responded to the incident at 10:16 a.m. for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving multiple pedestrians.

Arlington police said they are investigating the crash and access to the parking lot “will likely be disrupted for much of the afternoon.”
